Patsy Caudill, 79, of Beckley, West Virginia, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, January 31, 2026, following a short illness. She was born on October 14, 1946, in Otsego, West Virginia, to the late Minnie Edna Rinehart Baker and Bernice Franklin Baker.

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving and faithful husband of 50 years, Jimmy Caudill; her daughter, Amanda Moye and her son-in-law, Brent Moye; along with numerous extended family members and dear friends.

Fun Funeral Fact Friday!!

Have you heard of the Egyptian, Ancient Greek, and North-Eastern African tradition of Totenpass?

Members of the ancient religions of Orpheus and Dionysus, and some Egyptian and Semitic religions, used passports of the dead in their funeral and burial customs. These memorial tablets were made of metal or stone and featured an image of the deceased on one side. Details on how to navigate the afterlife awaited you on the other side.

Fun Funeral Fact Friday!!

Have you heard of the Victorian England tradition of Memento Mori?

Death and grief were widely celebrated during the Victorian era, and photographs of the deceased were widely used in their funeral and burial customs. Spirit photos, which used double exposure cameras to create a shadowy photograph of the deceased person alongside a solid picture of the mourners, were extremely popular. Jewelry or other mementos made from the dead's hair were also highly valued and frequently exchanged as tokens of affection.

Fun Funeral Fact Friday!!

Have you heard of the New Orleans tradition of a Jazz Funeral?

This funeral procession is unique to Cajun, New Orleans, and Louisiana culture, combining elements of European and African traditions. To the chorus of laments and other mournful musical selections, the deceased person is carried in a jazz procession from the crematorium or chapel to the cemetery. The band plays more upbeat music at the subsequent celebration of the person’s life.

Have you heard of the Jade Suit Burial from the Han Dynasty in China?

During the Han dynasty, the king and queen wore jade ceremonial garments to their funerals and final resting places. Jade was cut into squares, rectangles, and triangles, and later threaded with wires to create armor-like pieces. They were costly and took several years to complete.

Have you heard of the Filipino Tinguian Funeral?

In this tradition, people usually dress the deceased in their best clothes, sit them in a seat, and give them a cigarette before they are buried. And the decedent sits there ‘smoking’ for weeks.

Have you heard of the Chinese and Filipino tradition of Hanging Coffins?

Fun Thanksgiving Fact Friday??

Did you know the first Turkey Trot was in the 1890s?

Buffalo, New York, was the first city to host a Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning in 1896. Only six runners participated in the race that year, running on stretches of dirt road for roughly five miles. President Lincoln set the November date to coincide with the Pilgrims' landing on Plymouth Rock.

Did you know Benjamin Franklin wanted the turkey to be the national bird?

He wrote in a letter to his daughter, "For my own part I wish the Bald Eagle had not been chosen the Representative of our Country...For the Truth the Turkey is in Comparison a much more respectable Bird."

Did you know the first Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade featured Central Park Zoo animals?

The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade was originally called the "Macy's Christmas Parade" to kick off the holiday shopping season. Held in 1924, the first parade included monkeys, bears, camels, and elephants borrowed from the Central Park Zoo instead of the traditional character balloons we know today.

Did you know Snoopy has made the most appearances in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade?

Forty-four years after the first Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, Snoopy made his debut as a balloon in 1968. Throughout the years, the beagle has been represented by a total of seven balloons, making 39 appearances "on and off through 2015" before he was replaced by Charlie Brown in 2016. He returned as an astronaut for the 2019 parade, bringing his balloon total to eight.

Did you know the majority of Americans secretly don't like traditional Thanksgiving dishes, but they still eat them anyway?

A whopping 68 percent of Americans dislike Thanksgiving dishes like canned cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, and even turkey itself, according to a 2019 Instacart survey of more than 2,000 U.S. adults conducted online by the Harris Poll—but they'll still eat them in honor of tradition. Times are changing, however: Thirty percent of Thanksgiving dinner hosts have served something other than turkey as their main course (pork is the second most popular option).
