Colore**al cancer doesn’t affect everyone equally.

Black Americans are:
▪️ 15% more likely to develop colon cancer
▪️ 35% more likely to die from it

That’s why awareness and screening matter so much in our communities.

Screening saves lives. Conversations save lives. Sharing this post could save someone you love.

Let’s break the taboo and talk about gut health this month. 💙

🔍 Not all colonoscopies are the same. And not all doctors are either.

When it comes to colon cancer screening, quality matters.
Before booking with the first “colonoscopy near me” result, here’s what you should look for:

📊 Adenoma Detection Rate (ADR)
Higher rates mean more precancerous polyps are detected and removed — which lowers your cancer risk. The average ADR in the U.S. is 40%.

⏱️ Withdrawal Time
A careful, thorough exam takes time. Rushed procedures can miss important findings. The American College of Gastroenterology recommends a minimum withdrawal time of 6 minutes for colonoscopy.

🔢 Procedure Volume
Doctors who perform more colonoscopies tend to have better outcomes and detection rates.

🏥 Procedure Location
Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs) are often a better choice than hospitals —
✔️ Lower cost
✔️ Streamlined, efficient visits
✔️ Lower infection risk
✔️ Easy parking and access

Make sure to ask where the doctor performs colonoscopies: ASCs or hospitals.

🎓 Training
Look for Medical School → Internal Medicine Residency → Gastroenterology Fellowship.

⭐ Online Reviews
Patient comments often reflect communication, comfort, and staff support.

🏅 Board Certification
Shows advanced training and ongoing standards of care.

📄 State Medical License
Public verification of credentials and good standing.
Your colonoscopy isn’t just a test — it’s prevention.

If you’re in Bedford or DFW, choose a GI specialist who focuses on quality and safety every single day. 💙

Did you know a colonoscopy can PREVENT cancer?

Not just detect it. Prevent it.

During a colonoscopy, we:
✔️ Look for problems
✔️ Remove polyps
✔️ Prevent cancer before it starts

Colonoscopy is the only screening that can both detect and remove polyps. That’s why it’s considered the gold standard for Colon Cancer screening.

Most people should start at age 45, earlier for those considered high-risk (a family history, IBD, or specific GI symptoms).

It’s quick. It’s safe. And it could save your life.

Let’s not put this one off. Get screened! 💙

If you’re 45+ or have a family history, let’s get you scheduled.

March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month 💙

This March, please help spread awareness that Colon Cancer is a preventable cancer.

Here’s why screening matters:
▪️ 150,000 Americans are diagnosed each year
▪️ Over 50,000 deaths annually
▪️ BUT more than 1.5 million survivors in the U.S.

Why? Because early detection saves lives.

Colore**al cancer is one of the few cancers we can actually prevent with screening.

If you’re 45+ here in Bedford or the DFW area, it’s time to schedule your colonoscopy.

🩺 June is Men’s Health Month — Time to Prioritize You. 💪

Hey guys — when’s the last time you had a checkup?
We get it. Life’s busy. But your health can’t wait.
It’s not just about hitting the gym or eating clean — it’s about knowing what’s going on inside your body. Some of the most serious health issues don’t come with obvious symptoms. That’s why preventative screenings matter.

🔹 Don’t wait for symptoms — catching things early can save your life.
🔹 Colon cancer screening now starts at age 45 for men at average risk.
🔹 Talk to your doctor about the screenings that make sense for you, based on your age and your personal and family medical history. This can include:
• Colon Cancer
• Pancreatic Cancer screening
• Lynch Syndrome testing

Also, don’t ignore the signs your body may be giving you. If you’ve noticed any of the following, bring it up at your next appointment:

• Changes in bowel habits
• Unintentional weight loss
• Ongoing stomach pain or discomfort
• Feeling tired
• Hemorrhoid discomfort or re**al bleeding: A GI specialist can help find the root cause and offer real relief.

At Jay Yepuri, MD, we recognize the unique health needs of men. Our expert team is committed to delivering compassionate, comprehensive GI care to help you feel your very best. ✨

✅ Get Screened - Regular screenings can save lives. If you're 45+, it’s time to talk to your doctor.

Bringing awareness to colon cancer prevention is a cornerstone of my GI practice. This is one of the few cancers that screening can prevent. Subsequently, I always want to inform others about local events supporting colon cancer awareness to keep getting screened top of mind. If you have a personal connection to this cancer or want to help efforts delivering support to those impacted by this disease, there is a family-friendly walk on 11/09/24 in Arlington that everyone can participate in. For those interested in this walk, please use this link for more information: https://impact.ccalliance.org/event/2024-dfw-walk-to-end-colon-cancer/e551636.

To remain at the forefront of patient care and policies that affect our practice, I have taken leadership roles that allow me to provide direction on what is best for our patient population in DFW. I currently hold two roles as the American College of Gastroenterology Governor for Northern Texas and a physician executive at the Digestive Health Associates of Texas. Recently, I was featured on the Healio platform, giving feedback on the United Healthcare Gold Card program for GI endoscopy and other testing. Insurance can be challenging for providers and patients, so I think it is important to participate in dialogue to help insurance companies create good programs for everyone involved. You can view the video of my discussion here: https://tinyurl.com/56sc95uh.

I wanted to bring awareness to the upcoming Step Beyond Celiac 5K run-walk in Farmers Branch on October 19th. This is a family-friendly event, and proceeds help serve the celiac disease community and fund research. Here is a link to learn more about the event and register: https://stepbeyondceliac24.funraise.org/.
