✨ Calling Parents of Children Ages 2–5 with Autism ✨

We are proud to support our doctoral Occupational Therapy capstone student, Alyssa, in her final research project, and she needs your input!

If you are a parent of a child (ages 2–5) diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, please consider completing this short survey. 💙

This survey will help guide the development of an educational toolkit website designed specifically for families. The goal is to better understand:

✔️ Your early intervention/service experiences
✔️ Your perspective on neurodiversity-affirming practices
✔️ Topics you’d like to learn more about to support your child’s well-being and quality of life

🕒 Takes just 5–10 minutes
📝 Quick and confidential

🦖 “Even T-Rex had to learn how to eat!” 🦕

This week in feeding therapy, our dinosaurs helped us practice brave bites.

Before we ever ask a child to eat a new food, we work on:

🦴 Touching it
🦴 Smelling it
🦴 Feeding the dinosaur first
🦴 Using tools (tongs = dino claws!)
🦴 Describing how it feels

Because feeding therapy isn’t about forcing bites.

It’s about helping children feel safe and confident around food.

When a child feeds the dinosaur:
✔️ Anxiety decreases
✔️ Curiosity increases
✔️ Pressure goes down
✔️ Control stays with the child

And that’s when real progress happens.

If your little one:
• Only eats beige foods
• Refuses mixed textures
• Gags easily
• Panics at new foods

We can help. 🦖✨

🦕 RAWR means “I’m learning!” 🦖

This week in therapy, the dinosaurs took over, and so did BIG skills.

While it may look like we’re just playing, here’s what we’re really working on:

🦴 Following 2–3 step directions
🦴 Expanding sentences (“The T-Rex is stomping fast!”)
🦴 Sensory exploration in our dino dig bin
🦴 Core strength and balance in our “stomp like a dinosaur” obstacle course
🦴 Social skills during pretend dinosaur adventures

Play is powerful, especially for ages 2–5.

When children are engaged and regulated, language grows, confidence builds, and learning sticks.

If your little one loves dinosaurs but struggles with speech, sensory regulation, or feeding, we can help turn that interest into progress.

Early intervention changes everything. We've seen children start with barely any words and, through personalized therapy, blossom into confident communicators.

One little one began with just a few sounds; after focused speech therapy, they're now holding conversations with ease. These breakthroughs are why catching challenges early matters most.

Have you noticed your child struggling with speech or language? Let's help them find their voice.

How do you celebrate your child's milestones?
Every small step your child takes is a victory worth recognizing. Celebrating these moments builds confidence and encourages progress—because every effort counts as they grow.

Cold months can make mealtime even tougher for little ones facing feeding challenges.

Try offering warm, soft foods that are easy to chew and swallow, keep mealtimes calm and cozy, and encourage your child to explore textures at their own pace.

Have you noticed any tips that help during colder seasons? Share your experiences or questions below — we're here to support you!

Think early intervention means starting therapy the moment you see a delay? Not always.

Many families believe waiting won't affect outcomes, but early support truly shapes a child's future development. Starting therapy sooner can boost communication, motor skills, and feeding abilities before challenges grow.

Building with LEGOs or blocks isn't just fun—it's a powerful way to boost your child's finger strength, grasp, and focus. Plus, they'll feel like they're just playing!

Try encouraging small pieces to get these big skill gains.
