February is American Heart Month, a national effort to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease. Here are some heart-healthy tips to take care of your heart this month and every month!

Embrace Whole Grains
Choose whole grains like oats, brown rice, quinoa, and whole-wheat bread. They’re rich in fiber, which helps lower cholesterol and supports blood sugar. Avoid refined grains like white pasta, crackers, white bread, white flour, and many breakfast cereals.

Choose Healthy Fats & Oils
Swap saturated and trans fats for heart-healthy options like olive oil, avocado, nuts, and fatty fish. Healthy fats help reduce inflammation and improve cholesterol levels.

Eat More Fruits & Veggies
They’re packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fiber that support heart health and overall wellness.

Include Protein
Incorporate lean protein sources such as beans, lentils, fish, poultry, and dairy. Protein helps maintain muscle, keeps you full longer, and supports balanced blood sugar.

Limit Sugar, Alcohol & Processed Foods
Added sugars, excess alcohol, and highly processed foods contribute to high blood pressure, weight gain, and increased heart disease risk. Focus on minimally processed options instead.
