"Not For DATE NIGHT!

Just harvested our Red Onion Microgreen test. Whoa, if you want everything in the world to smell like onions for the next 30 minutes, eat just one of these little slivers. They’re like chives on acid.

Medicinally speaking, Red Onions have been used for… It would probably be easier to tell you what they were not used for. Red Onion seems to be a kind of cure-all.

Most Concentrated Cucumber Flavor Ever!

Just harvested our first crop of Borage Microgreens. You've probably seen Borage as a blue flower topping a $30 salad. The flowers are also frozen into ice cubes and tossed into cocktails.

I bit into one of the leaves and I was hit with an intense cucumber flavor. It was like cramming an entire cucumber into one small bite. Then, it was followed fast by an aftertaste that I could only describe as "cool and zippy".

Then I was hit with that tingly feeling you sometimes get when trying a strong herb. I looked down to see that my hands had turned red (an indication that it opens the blood vessels).

Borage is a Mediterranean flower that has been used to relieve stress, improve skin, treat respiratory illness, and as a detox.

I think it's a winner, and we'll definitely be doing more testing on this one.

🌱 Basil Micros: Super Small & Super Punchy

Just harvested these Basil Micros. The whole crop was less than 1 kilogram!!!

This has got to be one of the smallest micros we've ever grown. Next time I'll get the Precious Moments gardener to harvest these.

Anyway, they're super flavorful, and flavor seems to come with health benefits, so it still might be worth it. When you first bite into one (and I use the term "bite" loosely), it tastes almost like nothing. At first, it was a bit of a letdown. But then, at the back of your tongue, comes this groovy aftertaste. At first, I got a pretty strong licorice flavor, and then the basil followed strong after. It reminded me of a good Scotch that evaporates in your mouth and leaves you with this wonderful experience.

So, next time you're ordering a $30 salad, I recommend requesting the Basil Microgreens.

Our research shows that Basil has been used by traditional medical systems as an adaptogen. Basically, it relieves stress and helps you adapt to new situations, a lot like the Pea Micros we use in Revogreen Recover. Traditional systems have also used it to fight respiratory issues, promote blood circulation, and treat wounds.

We'll send these guys to the freeze-dryer and see what we get.

🤮 PUKE Beans Are A NO!

I just harvested our test of Scarlet Runner Beans. You can see here that these microgreens are anything but micro.

I did do a small test taste of one of the more mature micros. It was a bit fibrous and had a grassy yet beany flavor. There are a number of micros that give you a bit of a sensation when you eat them. We're not sure why but this seems to be true with many herbs. It's kinda like the body has this initial reaction to the nutrients that it's about to get.

This was true for Scarlet Runner. It had a bit of an energizing effect, similar to the Fenugreek Micros we use in Revogreen Power. This seemed like an early good sign.

Then I tried a slightly less mature plant. It had much more of a sappy, grassy flavor that I didn't really like, and I was kinda wondering if I should swallow some of it (Note to future self: The answer to that question is "NO!"). But I did it anyway. I did it for y'all.

It was a good thing I hadn't had breakfast yet, or I would have spewed all over the place. Like my stomach was saying, "We warned you this was a bad idea, now you're gonna get it!"

We thought this might be the case since mature, uncooked, Scarlet Runner Beans contain Lectins which are uh... um... TOXIC (but only in large quantities).

So I don't we'll see any Revogreen Scarlet Runner anytime soon. But it has made me curious about less-toxic beans like Black, Pinto, and Mung. (FYI most uncooked beans have some kind of toxin, but we're curious to see how the freeze-drying process affects those toxins.)
