The Guidelines are required by law to include an option for the "general public." That public now has one or more chronic diseases—60%-93%, according to various estimates)

Yet the Guidelines have long excluded a low-carbohydrate option despite the fast-growing science showing that this nutritional approach is the most effective for reversing type 2 diabetes, hypertension, inflammation, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and other conditions.

We need to speak up for a low-carb option in the upcoming Dietary Guidelines.

🔥Today’s SOAP:

“This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you.”
‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭1‬:‭6‬ ‭NLT‬‬ 🔥

Today, the phrase - “fan the flames” grabs my heart….

As I ponder on this idea, God brings many former pastors & Bible teachers, & mentors to mind. Bro. Billy Little, Bro. Tim May, Bro. William Martin, Bro. Jack Lane, & Bro. Watson from my earliest memories, as a youngster, growing up in west Jackson, MS.

Others, like Bro. Ed McDonald saved me twice- he led me in “the prayer” when I finally understood what Jesus did for ME…. And a 2nd time at the Lake, after going down the slide and nearly drowning 😰🤦‍♀️😵‍💫

We “rolled” Bro. May’s house as a teen group “welcoming” him to the youth ministry at our church. 😮😝🤷‍♀️

Multiple pastors have “fanned the flame” in my heart over the years, including the most beloved Billy Graham, who I heard as a teen at the stadium at UMMC. Another time, it was Bro. Dan Guest, who knew my MaMaw from Pelahatchie, MS, so I felt like he was a family friend before really knowing him.

Another pastor with connections to my family was Bro Barry Corbett … be also married a childhood acquaintance, from Ridgeland - yet another connection…😘

Mr. Raymond McClure drove a church bus and served as deacon at church. He greeted me when I walked the aisle. He talked with me m, and over my teen years, was always kind and encouraging.

Others who fanned the flame include Mr. Johnny at the hardware store…. Mr. Perry & Mr. McNair, other church bus drivers, Mr. Jerry Byrd, Miss Sue Butler, Miss Irene Breeland, Mrs. Laurie Gwaltney, and many faces whose names fail me….
Most recently , our church’s whole team of pastors have fanned the flame: Pastor Scott, Pastor Rusty, Pastor Tim, & Pastor Ryan ✝️

These people influenced my growth and maturity into who I’ve become today. They influenced my desire to walk with Christ, even as a young child. They spoke His Truth when they taught; they offered hugs and encouraging words randomly - not bc of some rule or guidance…. They modeled a Godly walk with Christ. It was true and genuine compassion and love that fanned the flame.

Still others came along when we had our kids who needed Godly leaders… Bro. Chris Webb, Mrs. Sue Dorill, Mrs. BJ Swafford, Bro Stuart MacKenzie, & of course Mrs Anne Porter.

These Godly mentors, pastors & friends have a place in my heart for all eternity. These people (& many others) carried Bibles to church and took notes during sermons or other classes; these people sat and listened to heartaches & struggles and orayed iver the hurting. ♥️These people mourned & grieved with their Christian brothers & sisters.

These people fanned the flame of encouragement and hospitality that I try to use to honor God. 🔥 These Christians lived life on their own journeys yet made time to fan the flames of growing Christians, & for that, I’m grateful 😍

🔥Today, I’m thankful for all the lifetime connections and people who’ve fanned the flames, improving my life & my walk with Christ. 🔥

Today, I’m grateful for friends and friendships, especially for my “tribe” I found here in the Omaha area.

Words just truly don’t express feelings well! 🥰😵‍💫😘

These ladies have become family, and loved me, encouraged me, held my feet to the fire, and prayed for/over me through some things. 🙌

💜 Scripture demonstrates what good relationships look like - look at Jesus and his 12 closest friends…. And Mary, Martha & Lazarus who were friends with Jesus too! Remember David & Jonathan??? 💜🩶💜

In all of these friendships, they prayed for each other. 🙏They held each other up before the Father. They interceded for each other. They thanked God for one another💜

These ladies also intercede on my behalf when I need His strength, wisdom, provision, or protection. These ladies text sweet words of motivation & encouragement- at just the right moments… 🥰😚🥰 When we gather, there are always laughter, tears, and heavy burdens that lighten. 🌹

😍🌸😍These ladies offer no judgement- only scriptural admonitions in love and grace, when needed. These sisters love and support one another fiercely 🔥

🍂🍁🍂So today, the first day of Thanksgiving Month, I’m thankful for my sisters, my friends. 😄🥰😚

Untrue, ridiculous and frankly, some dangerous statements I’ve been told parents have heard…and simple questions to ask back.

Dr says: low carb diets create ketones which are dangerous.

👉🏻You ask: what’s the difference between Diabetic Ketoacidosis and Nutritional Ketosis?

Dr says: shoot for an A1C of 7.0.

👉🏻You ask: what causes long term diabetic complications?

Dr says: you don’t need to cover protein.

👉🏻You ask: what is gluconeogenesis?

Dr says: kids need carbs to grow.

👉🏻You ask: What are the essential carbs?

Dr. says: Your child will feel deprived if he isn’t eating all the sugar other kids eat.

👉🏻You show him this picture of Will, leading the Conga line at his last school dance, (where he danced for 2 hours straight) ….clutching his bag of Legendary smart carb chips. All the time running completely NORMAL blood sugars. And ask…does this kid look deprived?

It’s okay to ask questions. It’s also okay to go against the norm.

It’s okay to let the graph be your guide. 💙

If you are a health care professional, you should be insisting on more data. You and I know how to evaluate research studies. We know there are conflicts of interest, many times, when studies are released.

We understand that laypeople often ONLY read headlines and hear the dramatic 2-3 sentences on the reel…

It is our responsibility to hold BigPharma accountable for their medications, side effects, and potential to harm during pregnancy.

Acetaminophen was previously classified as category B & is now classified as shown in the graphic. B does NOT mean that the drug is KNOWN to be 100% safe; it means we don’t have adequate data in specifuc populations - like pregnant women - to know its safety profile. 🤦‍♀️🤯🤦‍♀️

💪 For all health care providers that never use a drug app when prescribing medications, note the graphic that is a direct screenshot from epocrates, the best known and most widely recognized medication app for health care professionals.

⁉️ What does this mean?

That anyone is at risk of liver injury if acetaminophen is taken too much and that regular, longterm use during pregnancy CAN cause NEURODEVELOPMENTAL problems.

Best tip: become educated about the meds we prescribe. Teach patients what SAFE use of medication is. Let patients CHOOSE.
