Could your energy drink be fueling more than your day?
Yeah… I was shocked too. A new clinical study just linked taurine—an ingredient found in tons of popular energy drinks like Red Bull and Monster—to leukemia cell growth. Wild, right?
The Study: Taurine and Blood Cancer
A new study from the Wilmot Cancer Institute at the University of Rochester has raised serious concerns about taurine, a common ingredient in many energy drinks including Red Bull, Monster, Rockstar, and Celsius.
Researchers found that taurine may promote the growth of leukemia cells. Specifically, the study showed that taurine supported glycolysis—a process that helps cancer cells multiply. When taurine was restricted in the lab, leukemia progression slowed significantly.
This doesn’t mean taurine causes cancer—but it does show that in the presence of leukemia, taurine may accelerate disease progression. It’s a finding that demands attention and caution.
What Is Taurine?
Taurine is a naturally occurring amino acid found in some foods and made by the body. But in energy drinks, it’s added in high doses to enhance stimulation. That’s where the concern begins.
While some supplements and drinks claim taurine helps with performance, we believe: it’s safest to get what we need naturally—without added risk.

You deserve to know what’s in your products—and what’s not.
We’ll always make sure Option Blend stays that brand you can trust.
