We’re aware of recent questions and misinformation circulating online about Mary Rutan Health, including property transactions and the Northpointe hotel development. We want to set the record straight with verified facts.

Mary Rutan Health has operated as an independent, nonprofit health system since 1978, without city funding, oversight, or governance. While the City of Bellefontaine retained ownership of the main campus under a long-term lease for many years, that arrangement ended in 2017 with an agreement on mutually beneficial financial terms that simplified operations and supported local economic development.

The Northpointe hotel project is completely separate from the hospital’s main campus and city transaction. Mary Rutan Health purchased the Northpointe property privately in 2015, redeveloped a long-vacant site, and later contributed the land as an equity investment to help meet a long-standing community need for lodging. The land was not “given away,” and the health system does not manage or operate the hotel. Any financial returns support Mary Rutan Health’s mission of community benefit.

We encourage our community to rely on accurate, verified information rather than speculation. Our focus remains what it has always been: caring for patients, supporting our community, and being responsible stewards of our resources.

Our Mary Rutan Foundation is proud to support the LoCo Art program, Stress Less, through a Community Wellness Grant this year. Stress Less is a program focused on visual art, music and theatre. It teaches students in grades 5-9 arts-related coping skills and equips students with tools for dealing with stress and anxiety.

We are so thankful that we have the opportunity to support community programs like this that support the mental health and wellness of our local youth. Thank you, LoCo Art, for hosting this amazing program!

Our team recently celebrated the holiday season with a trip to the Columbus Zoo for their annual Wildlights! Members of our staff and their families got to explore the Zoo lights and visit with a few animals that were enjoying themselves in the colder weather.
We want to give a shoutout to our Team Engagement Specialist, who works tirelessly to put events like this together for our team! We also want to thank our team members and their families that braved the cold to make this event the wonderful time that it was!

We celebrated the holidays today with our second staff lunch of the week! Team members that didn't get to join in the holiday meal Wednesday at the Hospital had the chance to join in another lunch at the Health Center today! Once again, our Mary Rutan Food & Nutrition team made the most delicious meal, and we had a wonderful time spending the mealtime together. Happy holidays from our team to you!

2025 was a stellar year for the Mary Rutan Emergency Department! In several months this year, our ED ranked in the top 20% of emergency departments nationwide for patient satisfaction, and on occasion, even ranked in the top 10%!

Today was all about togetherness, good food, and even better company! Our team gathered for our annual holiday meal at Mary Rutan Hospital, where it was a time filled with laughter, great conversations, and lots of delicious food. We’re so grateful for these moments that allow us to slow down, connect, and celebrate the incredible people who make our organization what it is. Thank you to everyone who helped make today so special, especially our food & nutrition team that has been working extremely hard the past few days to make sure today went off without a hitch!
