After receiving a Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) denial, the next step is building a strong appeal.

How you document your case can make a significant difference in the outcome.
Key steps to strengthening your appeal include:
- Updating your medical records to reflect current treatment and progress.
- Securing support from your doctors who can explain how your condition impacts daily life and work.
- Keeping detailed documentation of symptoms, limitations and functional challenges.

A Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) appeal gives you the opportunity to strengthen your claim. For many people with disabilities, the appeal process is when missing details are clarified and medical evidence is better documented.

Appeals often focus on improving how your condition is supported with documentation, including how symptoms affect your ability to work on a consistent basis. Clear medical records, detailed work history and statements from people close to your everyday life can make a meaningful difference during this stage.

An appeal is not about starting over. It is about building on what has already been submitted and addressing the reasons your claim was denied.

Allsup has helped over 400,000 get approved for SSDI.

If you live with a thyroid disorder, you understand how symptoms such as fatigue, brain fog, pain or changes in energy levels can make it harder to keep up with job responsibilities and everyday tasks. These challenges can affect how you work, manage your time and plan for stability.

January is Thyroid Awareness Month, a time to recognize the experiences of people living with thyroid conditions and how those conditions can affect daily life and work.

When a thyroid condition limits your ability to work, Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) may help support your financial and medical stability. Eligibility is based on how your condition affects your ability to perform work-related activities over time, not only on a diagnosis.

Allsup supports people living with thyroid conditions by helping you understand SSDI eligibility and how to obtain the documentation needed for approval. Clear guidance through this process can help you focus on managing your condition and planning for stability.

Receiving a Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) denial letter can feel overwhelming, but it’s important not to panic.

And remember: a denial is not the end of the road.

Understanding what the letter actually says is the first step in planning your next move.

SSDI denial letters usually explain why your claim was denied in two ways:
- Technical reasons: These involve eligibility issues, such as work credits, filing deadlines or incomplete paperwork.
- Medical reasons: These relate to how the Social Security Administration evaluated your condition and whether it meets the definition of a disability.

Knowing the difference helps you focus on what needs attention and what can be addressed in an appeal.

Allsup can help you interpret your denial letter, understand the specific reasons your claim was denied and guide you through the next steps.

You don’t have to figure it out on your own.

Knowing when to start your Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) application can make a real difference.

Waiting can affect how long it takes to receive a decision and when benefits may begin. The Social Security Administration (SSA) looks at medical evidence, work history and when your condition started impacting your ability to earn income.

Timing matters, but so does accuracy.

Allsup helps you understand when applying makes sense based on your work history and medical situation.

You can get guidance on what information the SSA reviews and how to prepare an application that reflects the severity of your medical condition.

01/12/2026

When it comes to disability benefits, Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) may sound similar but serve different needs.

SSDI is designed for people with disabilities who have earned enough work credits through Social Security payroll taxes (F**A). Eligibility is based on work history and the severity of the disability, not current income or savings. Approved claims can also lead to Medicare coverage after a 24-month waiting period.

SSI helps people who have limited household income and resources, are disabled and have limited or no work history.

Both programs use the same medical criteria, but understanding which program fits your situation can be confusing.

Allsup can help you:
- Determine if you qualify for SSDI.
- Prepare and submit your SSDI application.
- Provide representation if your SSDI claim is denied.

Understanding Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) eligibility can feel complicated.

The Social Security Administration (SSA) looks at medical and work history to determine who qualifies for SSDI benefits.
Generally, to qualify for SSDI, you must:
- Be between 21 and full retirement age.
- Have worked at least five of the last 10 years and paid F**A taxes during that time.
- Be unable to work in any capacity because of a mental or physical impairment that’s expected to last at least 12 months or result in death.
- Be under the care of a healthcare professional who can confirm the severity of medical condition(s).

Allsup helps you understand how the SSA defines eligibility, what medical and work evidence is most relevant and how your individual situation fits the rules.

You do not have to figure this out by yourself or guess where you stand.

If you are unsure about eligibility, learning how the rules apply to your situation is an important first step.
