Did you know the Ticket To Work (TTW) Program offers you years of protection while you explore returning to work? These protections mean you can focus on your goals without worrying about losing access to the benefits you rely on.
Here’s how it adds up:
- 12 months - Trial Work Period (TWP): Test your ability to work while still receiving your Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits, no matter how much you earn during nine non-consecutive months in a five-year period. After the TWP, you get a 3-month grace period to earn any amount due to work and still receive your benefits.
- 36 months - Extended Period of Eligibility (EPE): This comes after the TWP. You have three years during which you will receive your regular SSDI benefits in any month that your earnings are below Social Security’s earnings limit, called Substantial Gainful Activity.
- 60 months - Expedited Reinstatement (EXR): If your disability makes it impossible to continue working after your SSDI payments have stopped, you can get your benefits restarted without a new application. You have 60 months after benefits end to access this option.
- 93 months - Medicare Continuation: Even if your SSDI benefits stop, you can keep your Medicare coverage for more than 7 years after your TWP ends, helping you maintain access to vital healthcare.
Altogether, TTW provides more than 7 years of built-in protections for your benefits. That’s time to try working, build new skills and explore opportunities—without losing your safety net. Contact Allsup Employment Services to learn more about how to use your Ticket and return to work.
