Ok, ok we know you’ve got a lot on your plate 🍽️ between 🦃, 🎁, 🕎, and 🎄 but did you know most dental benefits reset in January? 😬

Many families don’t realize that most insurance plans operate on a use-it-or-lose-it system. That means any unused benefits (like cleanings, exams, or treatment coverage) won’t roll over into the new year.

✨ Here’s how to make the most of them this fall:
✅ Schedule your child’s checkup before the year ends
✅ Finish any recommended treatment while coverage is still active
✅ Ask our team to help you maximize what’s left of your benefits

Don’t let your 2025 benefits go to waste. Your kid's smile (and your wallet!) will thank you. 😁

Have you ever noticed how in movies the “villains” always have black or crooked teeth? 😬 That’s Hollywood, not real life!

In reality, cavities come in many colors: white, yellow, light brown, even pink or green, and not all dark spots are bad news. In fact, sometimes a black area can mean the cavity has stopped progressing.

Only your dentist can tell if a cavity is active or not by using magnification, gentle tools, and X-rays.

Let’s talk snacks! 🧀🥕🥜

If you're wondering what snacks are best for your kiddo's teeth, Dr. Miller's got a clear answer: veggies, nuts, and cheese for the win.

Cheese especially? Total MVP. High in fat, low in sugar, and helps neutralize acids in the mouth 👌 Just remember: as with anything, balance is key—your kid’s digestive system will thank you

✨ Save this post for your next grocery run — or share it with another parent who needs snack inspo!

🎃 Happy Halloween from Expedition Pediatric Dentistry! 🍬

Halloween is all about fun and treats, but it can be tricky to keep little teeth healthy! Here are a few tips for parents:

🦷 Moderation is key: Encourage kids to enjoy candy in smaller amounts rather than grazing all night.
🪥 Brush after treats: Have your child brush their teeth before bed to remove sugar and prevent cavities.
💧 Rinse with water: If brushing isn’t possible, rinsing with water can help wash away sugar.
🍏 Balance with healthy snacks: Offer fruits, veggies, or cheese alongside candy to protect teeth and gums.

With a little planning, your child can enjoy Halloween sweets without compromising their teeth! 😁🦷

Is your kiddo still figuring out how to brush all the spots? Turns out there’s a super fun (and kind of magical 🪄) trick that might help…

…disclosing tablets!

They’re small, chewable tablets you can buy over the counter. After brushing, your child chews one up, spits, and voila! The dye shows where plaque is still hanging out 😮

Did you know you only need a pea-sized amount of toothpaste to clean your teeth effectively? More isn’t always better!
For the best results, avoid eating or drinking for 30 minutes after brushing, this lets the fluoride do its job and keep those smiles strong

Your kid grabbed a banana or some grapes as a snack – all natural, no added sugar. But did you know these healthy treats can still cause cavities?

The truth is that even natural sugars in fruit can feed the bacteria in your child’s mouth, which produce acids that can erode enamel and cause cavities over time.

🪥 Tips for cavity-free fruit eating:
- Brush teeth after meals, or rinse with water if brushing isn’t possible
- Limit sticky or dried fruits between meals
- Keep up with regular dental checkups to catch any early signs of decay

Fruit is still a nutritious and important part of a child’s diet; you just want to pair it with good oral hygiene to keep that smile healthy! 😁💙

White crowns are a durable and natural-looking option for kids. These crowns protect teeth that have been damaged by cavities, injury, or decay, while blending beautifully with the rest of your child’s smile. 🤍

🦷 How long do white crowns last?
The lifespan of a white crown depends on the tooth it’s protecting.
- On Baby teeth, they last until the tooth naturally falls out.

How to Care for your child’s crown?
Brush twice a day with a soft toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Avoid sticky, chewy candies that can pull on crowns, and keep up with regular dental checkups to ensure the crown and gums stay healthy.

Can crowns fall out?
Occasionally, yes - especially if they’re placed on a baby tooth that’s getting ready to fall out, or due to grinding, decay, or biting something hard. If this happens, call your dentist right away to prevent discomfort or infection.

What are white crowns made of?
White pediatric crowns can be made from several materials:
Ceramic: Natural-looking, biocompatible, and durable
Zirconia: Extremely strong and resistant to chips or cracks
Composite Resin: Cost-effective and easy to match to natural teeth
Acrylic: Used for temporary crowns made in-office

At Expedition Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Miller and our care team take time to explain every option and make the process easy and comfortable, ensuring your child’s smile stays healthy and confident for years to come.

Let’s clear this one up! 🙌

Before sealants are applied, your child’s tooth is carefully cleaned and dried to prepare the surface. And if any sneaky bacteria happen to be hiding deep in those grooves, they won’t stand a chance once sealed; the food and plaque can’t reach them, so they eventually starve and die off.

Sealants make the tooth surface smoother and easier to brush, helping keep those deep pits and fissures clean. They can reduce the risk of cavities by up to 80% in molars, making them one of the simplest and most effective ways to keep your child’s smile cavity-free!
