Access is a form of care.
Beginning January 2026, Washington’s new HB 1971 protects access to hormone therapy by requiring most state- regulated insurance plans to cover up to a year’s supply of eligible medications at once.
For patients using hormones for gender affirmation or menopause support, this means more stability and fewer barriers between you and the care you need.
Because testosterone is classified as a Schedule III controlled medication, federal law allows pharmacies to dispense up to a 90-day supply at a time, with refills totaling up to six months.
At Spectrum, we already prescribe extended supplies when it’s safe to do so. This new law simply ensures your insurance keeps up.
