We have a bill that will be heard before the Senate tomorrow that, if passed, will allow licensed midwives the authority to prescribe, obtain, and administer medications and therapies for contraception and the treatment of common conditions of pregnancy and postpartum. These include things like prescribing antibiotics for urinary tract infections or mastitis, or birth control postpartum. This would allow us to help our families so much more efficiently. We have worked hard to get here, and are so glad to have the support of so many!

We are asking you to register your support for the bill here: https://app.leg.wa.gov/CSI/Testifier/Add?chamber=Senate&mId=29636&aId=144696&caId=18956&tId=3. Making the widespread support known from colleagues, midwives, and consumers is critical! Thank you in advance for taking a few moments to ensure your voice is heard.

And warm tidings to little Finnley, our first baby of 2022, so you get to wear the crown!

Our Bellingham wild autumn weather is here, and we are excited for a busy October full of babies. To our clients and colleagues, here is an update of Birthroot Birth Center’s current COVID-19 guidelines. We will be releasing any updates quarterly.

Masking: As a healthcare facility, we require masks to be worn regardless of vaccination status inside the birth center for clinic appointments. During birth the laboring person is not required to mask. We ask that partners, and all other family members or doulas wear masks. We, your midwife team, will remain masked at all times when caring for you.

Visitor Guidelines: For clinic appointments partners are welcome to join. If possible, please leave siblings at home. During labor, 2 people may support the laboring client, i.e. partner and doula. Doulas are required to be vaccinated.

Telehealth Visits: Although we are no longer routinely doing telehealth visits this is still an option upon client request or if you or a member of your household are experiencing any symptoms.

Welcome, sweet baby Lincoln.

A very belated welcome to little miss Lola, who brings an announcement. With the state policy changes, we have a COVID update for you all!

Masking: As a healthcare facility we are still requiring masks to be worn regardless of vaccination status inside the birth center for clinic appointments. During birth the laboring person is not required to mask, nor is the partner if vaccinated. We ask that other family members or doulas still wear masks. We, your midwife team, will remain masked at all times when caring for you.

Visitor Guidelines: We have lifted our support person limit and clients are welcome to choose who they would like to attend their birth. Siblings are also welcome again at prenatal and postpartum visits.

Telehealth Visits: Although we are no longer routinely doing telehealth visits this is still an option upon client request or if you or a member of your household are experiencing any symptoms.

Happiest mamma‘s day to all our wonderful families from your midwives! This picture is from a year ago, when we were carefully social distancing with each other to keep you all safe. We have the absolute privilege of getting to witness some of the most poignant moments encapsulating motherhood...moments that demand more courage, resilience, intention, and compassion than parents have ever experienced before, and it is amazing to watch them rise to the challenge. Today we honor all you mammas for the vulnerable ways you show up for yourselves and others, whether it be in the context of a miscarriage, a triumphant vaginal delivery or cesarean birth, or as partners and grandmas who hold the space for it all to unfold. Love and gratitude from us to you all!
