Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Director of Environmental Services (or the Assistant Supervisor) a Housekeeper performs the following job functions:

General Cleaning - Essential job functions

Dust and clean assigned offices, conference rooms, dining rooms, laundry rooms, nurse stations, and patient and non-patient rooms
Clean bathrooms, sick area, floors, side tables, and night stands in resident’s rooms
Collect trash in resident’s rooms
Using standard cleaning equipment, sweep/dust mop and wet mop hard floors in rooms for patient or non-patient use, bathrooms, hallways, waiting areas, stairways, and conference rooms
Other general cleaning duties as assigned
Other Essential job functions and responsibilities

Pass out supplies to residents rooms
Prep and clean supply cart

Qualifications and Skills
Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions
Up to one year of related experience in a hospital, hotel, or industrial setting
Willingness and ability to tolerate occasional unpleasant sights and odors
Willingness to wear prescribed attire
Willingness to work in any area
Willingness to work any shift, including weekends, holidays, and any necessary overtime
Ability to perform all duties in conformance with established procedures and standards
Good working knowledge of appropriate cleaning methods and material

Job Summary

Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Nursing, the Staff Nurse is responsible for the comprehensive nursing care of assigned patients and for the supervision and training of nursing personnel who assist in the provision of care to the assigned patients.

Responsibilities and Duties
The essential job functions for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Supervises and evaluates work performance of nursing personnel that are assisting in patient care
• Periodically assess the total needs of the patient and develops nursing care plans to meet those needs which includes: recognition of emotional, social and cultural factors; encouragement of self-respect and self-esteem; guidance toward rational and socially acceptable behavior; and implementation of restorative nursing care measures
• Maintains acceptable standards of nursing practice
• Prepares, administers, and charts medications and treatments according to the physician’s order and schedule, and as directed by the Procedures Manual
• Is responsible for total patient care in the assigned unit and assists with direct care as needed
• Is responsible for interpretation and executions on the physician’s orders
• Makes decisions in emergency situations and practices first aid measures
• Is responsible for accurate observations, evaluations, and reporting of patients’ symptoms, reactions, and progress to the Director of Nursing, the Administrator, and others participating in care and treatment of patients
• Assists in development of organizational plans as they relate to nursing including work schedules, policies, and review of nursing procedures
• Assists in orientation and training of new nursing personnel
• Assists in the admission process and orientation of new patients
• Checks daily assignments of nursing personnel in assigned unit and ascertains that each is aware of new and/or special orders for the patients
• Assists nursing personnel with difficult treatments and emergencies
• Provides direct nursing care to critically ill patients and administers special treatments
• Administers medication and treatments according to the physician’s orders
• Maintains medication files and requisitions for all medications and refills
• Inventories nursing supplies and equipment and notifies the Director of Nursing regarding supply and equipment needs, including replacement and repair
• Uses individualized nursing measures to alleviate patient discomfort
• Prepares patients for, and assists with, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, treatments, and examinations
• Assists with teaching patients, families, and personnel
• Assists in coordinating nursing care with care rendered by others
• Protects the patients, their privacy, and their property
• Participates in reports and patient care conferences
• Attends inservices, group meetings, and monthly license meetings
• Assures that documentation is complete in the medical record of the patient’s physical, psychological, emotional, social, economic, and cultural status with any changes in status notated
• Makes daily visits with patients to ascertain their comfort and condition. If the Change Nurse administers medication, the visits can be made during medication rounds
• Corrects and completes pharmacy monthly audits, per RD recommendations
• Completes monthly psychotropic assessment
• Calls physician to report monthly weight gain or loss
• Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications and Skills
• A graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing or from a national or state-approved school of vocational nursing
• Currently licensed as a registered or vocational nurse in California
• Demonstrates knowledge of, and ability to, apply basic princi0les of nursing care
• Experience and/or education in the care of the aged and chronically ill, restorative nursing, psychiatric nursing, and supervision

Duties and Responsibilities (12:00 noon – 8:30 p.m.)

Examples of essential job functions for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Review meal tickets and set meal trays
Clean meal carts before and after meal distribution
Stock and transport meal and condiment carts
Assist with cleaning dishwashing machine and garbage disposal areas
Wash leftover dishes, glass rack and soup bowl trays after meal distribution
Make and refrigerate drinks, juices, and coffee
Clean counters and sweep and mop the kitchen
Clean glass rack and soup bowl trays
Replace used towel and bucket containers with fresh containers

Minimum requirements:
A nursing degree from an accredited college or university, or be a graduate of an approved RN program.
Three years of experience in a management role as an RN in Skilled Nursing.
Meet state requirements for relevant licensures or certifications & have no disciplinary action in effect against professional license.
Education, training, experience, or certification in infection control & prevention.
Completed specialized training in infection prevention & control through accredited continuing education.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
Develop & implement an ongoing infection prevention & control program to prevent, recognize, & control the onset & spread of infections in order to provide a safe, sanitary, & comfortable environment.
Establish facility-wide systems for the prevention, identification, reporting, investigation, & control of infections & communicable diseases of residents, & staff.
Develop & implement written policies & procedures in accordance with current standards of practice & recognized guidelines for infection prevention & control.
Maintain current compliance on related infection control/prevention topics within our industry & within our community.
Runs the facility’s antibiotic stewardship program.
Oversee resident care activities that increase risk of infection.
Lead the facility’s Infection & Prevention Control Committee. Develop action plans to address opportunities for improvement.
Participate on the facility’s QAA Committee. Perform duties as assigned.
Implement an annual infection control risk assessment process & participate in the facility’s annual facility assessment review process.
Review and/or revise the facility’s infection prevention & control program, its standards, policies, & procedures annually & as needed for changes to the facility assessment to ensure they are effective & in accordance with current standards of practice for preventing & controlling infections.
Provide education related to infection prevention & control principles, policies, & procedures to staff, residents, & families (where appropriate).
Collaborate closely with County Public Health Department in reporting & mitigating incidents of communicable disease. The Infection Preventionist will be responsible for the daily line listing that goes to the County. The Infection Preventionist will be the one that opens the facility following an outbreak.
Will be leading the charge if/when outbreak exists. It will be expected to be onsite and/or available to provide guidance to staff on 24/7 basis during communicable disease outbreak.
Collaborate with other departments in fulfilling requirements related to occupational health & safety.
Remain current on new developments related to infection prevention & control by attending professional institutions, reading professional journals, attending professional seminars, or reading new laws, rules, & regulations.

Serve as resource for staff regarding infection prevention & control, including the identification of when a resident needs to be placed on isolation precautions.

Work with environmental services to prevent cross-contamination in the care environment.

Work with community partners & other healthcare facilities to help prevent transmission of infection during care transitions.
Maintaining documentation of infection prevention & control program activities.

Maintain confidentiality of protected health information, including verbal, written, & electronic communications.
Report noncompliance with policies, procedures, regulations, or breaches in confidentiality to appropriate personnel. Report any retaliation or discrimination to HR or the compliance officer.
Report any allegations of abuse, neglect, misappropriation of property, exploitation, or mistreatment of residents to administrator and/or DON. Fulfill individual responsibility to report any suspicion of a crime to law enforcement & the state agency. Protect residents from abuse, & cooperate with all investigations.
Report any occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and/or hazardous chemicals in accordance with facility policy.
Report work-related injuries & illnesses immediately to supervisor.
