The Aspen Award was established to recognize outstanding individuals working behind the scenes in our support service departments who consistently go above and beyond in their roles at MCHHS. Aspen Award nominees exemplify teamwork and demonstrate exceptional interactions with staff, patients, and visitors.

We are proud to announce that Joyce Hartsock, Patient Registration, is our latest recipient of the Aspen Award. Her nomination shared, “Joyce is such a great person—so kind and always so helpful when we need something. She truly deserves this award, as she consistently goes above and beyond for both staff and patients.”

“Joyce sets the standard for what it means to be an attentive, compassionate registration clerk and an exemplary MCHHS employee,” states Shane Olson, Business Office Director. “When I hear Joyce speak with patients, I’m reminded that she truly embodies the MCHHS Mission Statement in human form. I genuinely believe Joyce was put on this Earth to serve the people of our communities. Through her empathy and witty humor, she makes both patients and staff feel like the most important person of the day. When I visit other facilities for appointments, I find myself comparing every registration clerk to Joyce Hartsock—and I have yet to encounter anyone whose compassion and dedication to service shine as brightly as hers.”

We would like to recognize the other employees nominated for The Aspen Award during this period. Nominees were Osmanys Brito-Alarcon, Dietary; Kinsi Jacobitz, Patient Registration; Kay Moore, Dietary; Rosemary Witt, Laundry; David Lewis, Environmental Services; Tammy Cooper, HIM; and Crystal Gray, Dietary.

Employees may be nominated by providers, patients, family / visitors, volunteers and MCHHS employees. Awards are presented twice a year.

Mitchell County Hospital Health System’s Senior Life Enrichment Program Receives 2025 Program Finalist of the Year Award

Mitchell County Hospital Health System’s Senior Life Enrichment has been named the 2025 Program Finalist of the Year by PMC, which manages the program.

MCHHS’s program supports the unique needs of individuals, typically 65 and older, experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, grief and other mental health challenges that are often associated with aging. The Senior Life Enrichment Program team is composed of a board-certified psychiatrist, a nurse practitioner, a licensed therapist, a registered nurse, and other highly trained professionals dedicated to providing each patient with the highest quality, individualized care.

PMC partners with more than 250 hospitals and health systems across the country to provide behavioral healthcare services. Top-performing employees and Senior Life Solutions programs are recognized annually based on their excellence in demonstrating PMC’s values of care, compliance, and community. Award recipients were chosen for providing outstanding patient care, excellent comprehension and ex*****on of compliance regulations, and strong community engagement.

“We are incredibly proud of our Senior Life Enrichment team for being named a 2025 Program Finalist of the Year by PMC,” said Nicki Cleveland, Chief Nursing Officer. “This recognition reflects the compassion, dedication, and expertise our staff brings to supporting older adults facing mental health challenges. Their commitment to individualized, high-quality care not only embodies our mission, but makes a meaningful difference in the lives of our patients and the community we serve.”

Families, friends, community members, physicians, self-referrals, or other health professionals can refer people to the Senior Life Enrichment program. For more information, education, or if you would like to discuss support, please call 785-534-1536.
