Sanford Health's Capt. Paul Weckman teamed up with Southeast Tech and the Alliance to surprise Wings of Valor with a bus to use at the hunting lodge for veterans.

Over several months, Southeast Tech students (some of whom are veterans themselves) fixed up an old school bus – notably referred to as a ‘cool bus’ – donated by the Alliance that will be used to carry veterans to the field at Wings of Valor.

RSV is a common virus that causes symptoms such as a runny nose, decrease in appetite, coughing, sneezing, fever and wheezing.

Although RSV does not usually cause severe illness in healthy adults and children, some people with the RSV infection may need to be hospitalized.

If you are pregnant, have an infant or young children, or are 65-years-old or older, it is important you take precaution against this disease as you are at higher risk. Learn more about RSV here:

Last week, the Sanford Health HR and Military and Veterans Affairs team began handing out the first of four Military and Veteran Scholarships to current active or retired military service members who are pursuing a degree in a health care field.

Jessica Linke, a University of South Dakota medical student and member of the South Dakota National Guard, received the first of four scholarships. Linke grew up in central Minnesota and went to South Dakota State University for her undergraduate degree. Now, she's a fourth-year medical student at University of South Dakota and has a passion for rural health care.

Last weekend, the nursing and clinical services team at Sanford Health in Fargo partnered with North Dakota Public Health and the Foundation for a Healthy North Dakota for an immunization and education event. Miley Mines has been chosen as the Royal Switch Master to turn on the Christmas decorations at the Sanford Children's Castle this year.

When Miley was just 6 years old, she experienced a stroke and was diagnosed with a virus that was attacking her brain and blood vessels, specifically HSV-1, Meningitis and Encephalitis.

A week after her diagnosis, Miley underwent emergency surgery on her skull.

Now, Miley is in recovery, regaining strength in her hand and talking again.

From serving their country to serving their community through Sanford AirMed, these five veterans all share a lot of history.

With the National Guard right down the road, Sanford AirMed became a natural landing zone for the experienced pilots and mechanics, who had served in the National Guard together, looking to transition into a civilian career.

Whether it be war zones, flood relief, firefighting, or emergency health care, these five men have seen their fair share of difficult situations. It's no surprise then that they say they wouldn't be as good at their current jobs if not for the training and experience they've had in their previous roles.
