Tricep tendinitis - is it just the triceps? Keep reading.
Sometimes. Usually theres more. Blasting your triceps several days per week, including overhead skull crushers, is definitely a way to irritate the triceps tendon.
But forgetting that the triceps originates in the scapula, is innervated by C7, and requires optimal thoracic mobility and scapular stability to function 100% is a great way to solve half of the issue.
Yes, decreasing the load on the triceps (skull crushers) is important to allow things to calm down. But we also need to optimize everything around it.
Here's our initial treatments: dry needling triceps, stretching lats/triceps, scraping triceps, scapular exercises (W's and A's). Things are somewhat better.
Next session: rhomboid and mid trap soft tissue work and scraping, thoracic joint manipulation, triceps scraping. Continue W's and A's. Now things are really feeling better.
Today's session: W's and A's. Thoracic mobility (resisted kneeling open books). Thoracic joint manipulation. Lateral glides C6-7, cervical traction. Rhomboid, mid trap, triceps scraping.
