ReachAnother Foundation helps save babies with spina bifida and hydrocephalus in Ethiopia.

Our recent Rotary/ReachAnother parent forum had everything we love in one place. 🙏

While parents and caregivers listened and asked thoughtful questions about how folic acid can help prevent neural tube defects, the kids were nearby flipping through storybooks, painting, and turning the new “Kids Corner” into a little burst of color and joy. 💚

It was one of those gatherings that felt both practical and deeply hopeful all at once.

Raising a child with spina bifida or hydrocephalus can be exhausting, complicated, and deeply isolating.
That's why multidisciplinary care matters so much.

When care is coordinated across surgery, nursing, physiotherapy, and follow-up, families are better supported, and children have a stronger chance to thrive.❤️

For us, this is one of the most important parts of improving SBH care in Ethiopia.

What an honor! At the closing ceremony of Ethiopia’s Birth Defects Awareness Week, ReachAnother Foundation was recognized by the Ministry of Health for its outstanding work in the prevention, treatment, and aftercare of neural tube defects.

This recognition means a lot to us because it reflects years of shared work with Ethiopian partners building stronger systems of care for children and families affected by spina bifida and hydrocephalus.✨🤝

We had such a sweet ReachAnother gathering in Bend this week. About 25 friends came together to write messages of love and support for moms everywhere. 💛

Those flags will head to Ethiopia with us, where they’ll be displayed at the ReachAnother gala in May, and then hung inside the new pediatric neurosurgery center at Zewditu.

It’s been a while, Central Oregon friends!

After a couple of years without an in-person ReachAnother gathering, we’re excited to reconnect, share some joyful updates from Ethiopia, and celebrate a big milestone: our first-ever fundraising gala in Ethiopia.

Last week, our Program Director, Dr. Mahder, and Technical Director, Dr. Nebiyat, visited Hiwot Fana Comprehensive Specialized Hospital in Harar to launch the Rotary/ReachAnother high-risk prevention program in the region. After strong success at four hospitals in Addis Ababa, this expansion will help more high-risk mothers receive folic acid to reduce the risk of a second spina bifida or hydrocephalus pregnancy.

Prevention is key because it gives more children the chance for a healthier start in life. 🤗

🌍 March 3rd is World Birth Defects Day

Today we join the global community in recognizing World Birth Defects Day and standing alongside families in Ethiopia and around the world who are impacted by birth defects. At ReachAnother Foundation, this day is a reminder that awareness must lead to action — stronger health systems, earlier diagnosis, better treatment, and prevention where possible.

We believe every child deserves not just a healthy start, but access to the care and support they need to thrive. 💙

Together, we can reduce stigma, expand understanding, and build a future where birth defects are prevented when possible and treated with compassion and quality care.

Our team recently traveled to Bahir Dar to provide ultrasound training.

Ultrasound is such an important tool in pediatric care because it gives hospital teams a powerful bedside tool to evaluate children quickly and support better treatment decisions.

Nothing beats getting everyone in the same room!👏

Last week, our SBH Coordinators came together for our bi-annual program evaluation. They shared what they are seeing on the ground, traded ideas, and mapped the next improvements in spina bifida and hydrocephalus care. Lots of learning, lots of problem-solving, and a lot of joy, too.🤩
