We are so grateful for every family who walks through our doors! We want to express our gratitude for trusting us with your kiddos. We feel so lucky every day to have the best job in the world - watching children, teens, and young adults learn and grow! 🤩

We will be closed the rest of the week for Thanksgiving so our team can enjoy time with their loved ones. We hope your holiday is filled with good food, cozy moments, and people who make you feel cared for!

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Little Hands Therapy 🩵🦃

IYKYK 😂🌚

As pediatric therapists, we almost never have time to lay down, but when we saw this silly video online, we knew we had to join in on the fun!

All jokes aside, when kiddos (and adults!) lie flat on the floor, their nervous system gets a break. The steady pressure from the surface, the stillness, and the sense of being supported can help the body settle, reduce sensory overload, and bring everything back to baseline. 🧘🧘‍♀️ It’s a simple way to reconnect with your body, organize your thoughts, and feel calmer. 🌀

Some people work at desks…

We work on floors, swings, and in foam pits!

Don’t worry, this definitely counts as working because when your job is play-based, working looks a little different! 😂

📣 Fine Motor Friday!

🎨 Painting with Q-tips is a simple, fun way to build your child’s fine motor skills and it’s a hit with kiddos of all ages!

✨ Holding a Q-tip encourages a proper pincer grasp (the same motion used for writing and buttoning).
✨ Dabbing small dots builds hand strength, control, and precision.
✨ Mixing colors or tracing shapes adds in creativity and visual-motor coordination.

Try making dotted pictures, rainbow patterns, or even your child’s name! Little Hands get stronger one dot at a time! ✋

📣 Ways We Communicate Wednesday!

📚 Books are one of the best ways to grow your child’s communication skills and it doesn’t have to mean just reading the words!

Try these tips to make reading interactive:
✨ Pause and let your child fill in a word or sound.
✨ Point to pictures and talk about what’s happening.
✨ Label emotions, actions, and objects (“The dog is running! Look, he’s happy!”).
✨ Ask simple questions like “What do you see?” or “What happens next?”

Every shared story builds connection, language, and imagination no matter your child’s age or ability level. 🤩

📣 Movement Monday!

Turn a simple balloon into a fun game of hot potato! 🥔🎈

This activity helps kids practice turn-taking, coordination, and motor planning while laughing and moving!

Try it out:
🧍‍♂️Sit or stand in a circle.
💥Toss or tap the balloon to the next person before it “pops” or touches the ground.
🎵Add a song or timer for an extra challenge!

This playful game builds social skills, balance, and body awareness, perfect for kiddos of all ages and abilities.

📣Fine Motor Friday!

🤏 Clothespins are a simple but powerful tool for building hand strength and coordination! When kiddos squeeze and release them, they’re strengthening the small muscles in their hands that are needed for writing, dressing, and cutting.

Try a few fun ways to use them at home:
🧺 Clip them onto the edge of a basket or box.
🎨 Use them to pick up small objects like pom poms or cotton balls.
🐛 Make a “caterpillar” by clipping them onto a popsicle stick or string.

These playful activities support fine motor control, pincer grasp, and hand-eye coordination which all essential for daily tasks and school readiness. 🤓

📣 Ways We Communicate Wednesday!

Today’s ASL Sign: All Done ✋

“All done” is one of the most useful first signs for little ones! It helps kiddos express when they’re finished with a task, meal, or activity which helps with reducing frustration 😤 and supporting early communication.

To sign “all done,” hold your hands up and twist them back and forth, like you’re showing your palms to the sky and then turning them over. Encourage your child to use it during transitions, like finishing snack time or play. 🥨

🧠 Pairing signs with spoken words helps build understanding and connection while supporting speech and language development.

📣 Movement Monday!

Freeze Dance Fun! 🕺

Freeze dance is a classic for a reason! Kiddos love the music and movement, but it’s also a great way to build body awareness, self-regulation, and motor planning skills. 🧠

🥶 When the music stops, kiddos have to pause their bodies, listen carefully, and control their movements, all key parts of developing executive functioning, motor planning, and attention.

Try it at home! Pick a few favorite songs, set clear rules (dance when the music plays, freeze when it stops), and let your child lead sometimes to boost confidence and creativity. 🤩

📣 Fine Motor Friday!

Buttoning might seem like a small daily task, but it’s actually a big fine motor skill! 👕

When kiddos practice buttoning, they’re working on:
✨ Finger strength and dexterity by using small muscles to pinch, push, and pull
✨ Bilateral coordination by using both upper extremities together with different movements
✨ Hand-eye coordination by lining up and fitting the button through the hole or lining up the snaps
✨ Independence and confidence by mastering self-care routines like dressing!

💡 Try starting with large buttons on loose fabric (like a dress-up shirt or button board), then work toward smaller or tighter buttons as their skills improve.
