The aging you've been taught to accept as inevitable? It's largely optional.

This isn't about anti-aging creams or expensive supplements. It's about understanding the three interconnected factors that are actually driving cellular decay—and the surprisingly simple (but not easy) practices that reverse them.

We've been sold a story about aging that focuses on genetics and time. But what if aging is really about accumulation—of toxins, of cellular debris, of unprocessed stress?

In this article, I break down:

• Why heavy metals (including those in certain medical interventions) are silently destroying your mitochondria

• How damaged mitochondria create a vicious cycle that accelerates aging exponentially

• Why chronic stress isn't just "in your head"—it's creating measurable cellular damage

• The three practices that address all of this simultaneously (and cost you nothing)

This is for people who are tired of being told their symptoms are normal, their concerns are unfounded, and their healing is impossible.

Your body wants to heal. Your job is to remove the obstacles.

Why does sound healing actually work?

We get this question a lot, so let's break it down.

Your nervous system has two main states:
1. Sympathetic (fight/flight/freeze—stress, survival mode)
2. Parasympathetic (rest/digest/heal—safety, recovery mode)

Most of us are stuck in sympathetic activation. Chronic stress. Racing thoughts. Poor sleep. Digestive issues. Anxiety. Your body thinks it's constantly under threat.

Here's the thing: you can't think your way out of this. Your nervous system doesn't speak the language of logic. It speaks the language of sensation and frequency.

Sound healing works because:
Low-frequency sounds from crystal singing bowls and gongs activate the vagus nerve—the main pathway of your parasympathetic nervous system. This signals to your body: "You're safe. You can rest. You can heal."

One sound bath can create a noticeable shift. But multiple sessions over several days? That's when transformation happens. Your nervous system starts to remember what regulation feels like.

At Return to the Sacred (September 17-20), you'll experience:
• Morning sound journeys to gently awaken your system
• Evening sound journeys to integrate and release what you're ready to let go of
• 4 days of deep nervous system recalibration

This is why people cry during sound baths. Why they fall asleep. Why they feel lighter afterward. It's not placebo. It'sThis is why people cry during sound baths. Why they fall asleep. Why they feel lighter afterward. It's not placebo. It's regulation.

What does "Return to the Sacred" actually mean?

I've been thinking a lot about this word—sacred—and what it means in our everyday lives.

Sacred isn't religious (unless that's your practice). It's about what matters most. What you've forgotten in the noise of daily life. What your soul is asking you to remember.

For most of us, we've lost touch with what's sacred:
• Our bodies (we push through exhaustion instead of listening)
• Our intuition (we override it with logic and "shoulds")
• Our connection to nature (we've forgotten we're part of it)
• Our clarity (we're so busy we can't hear ourselves think)

This retreat is about remembering.

Through sound healing, you'll experience what it feels like when your nervous system finally relaxes.

Through time in nature on Lake Superior, you'll reconnect with rhythms your body recognizes.

Through community and solitude, you'll find space to hear yourself again.

You'll leave with clarity on your next right step. Not because someone told you what to do, but because you remembered what you already know.

September 17-20. Wild Rice Retreat, Bayfield, Wisconsin.

Return to the Sacred: September 17-20, 2025

I'm excited to share something Luke and I have been planning: a 4-day retreat on the shores of Lake Superior at Wild Rice Retreat in Bayfield, Wisconsin.

This isn't a typical wellness weekend. It's a chance to come home to yourself through sacred practice, sound, and nature.

What's included:
🎶 Daily sound journeys (morning sessions to awaken, evening sessions to integrate and release)
🌲 Guided forest hikes and an adventure day to the Apostle Islands
🫁 Yoga nidra and breathwork
❄️ Optional sauna and cold plunge
🍽️ Farm-to-table meals prepared with local ingredients
❤️‍🔥 Balance of community connection and time alone for reflection

Why September? The turn of season—summer moving into fall—is a natural time for letting go and getting clear on what's next.

We're keeping this intimate. Limited spots available.

If you've been feeling disconnected, exhausted, or unclear about your next step—this might be exactly what you need.

Lake and Local Wellness Spotlight: The Collective, Benton Harbor

Walking into The Collective in Benton Harbor, it’s immediately clear this isn’t a traditional studio — and that’s very much by design. Owned and operated by partners Adrienne and Luke, The Collective was built as a shared vision rooted in wellness, personal growth, and community care.

Yoga, sound healing, strength training, breathwork, aerial yoga, and community gatherings all exist here — but not in a “ring the register and move on” kind of way.
“We didn’t want to run this like a straight business model,” Adrienne shared. “We really wanted to create something that works for the community, and also works for us.” That philosophy shows up everywhere — from how classes are structured to how people are welcomed into the space.

Instead of locking people into long-term commitments, The Collective offers flexibility. Some offerings run as short series, others are available as drop-ins, and many can be bundled into class packages that allow people to move at their own pace.

That flexibility isn’t just about scheduling — it’s about meeting people where they are physically, emotionally, and mentally. Classes are intentionally approachable. Beginners are welcome. Older adults are welcome. People healing from injuries are welcome. There’s no pressure to perform or push beyond what feels safe.

At its core, The Collective is about balance. Alongside gentler practices, the space also offers strength training, cold exposure, breath retention, and meditation — all held within a mindful, supportive environment.

“We’re not healing anything for you,” she said. “We’re creating an environment where you can feel safe enough and empowered enough to do the work yourself.”
At the heart of it all is a simple but powerful idea. Adrienne described The Collective’s purpose as helping people move beyond the practices themselves and into their everyday lives.

“We really see our purpose as helping people get to the point where they’re creating a work of art out of their life,” she said.

Such an awesome space, be sure to follow .bh & The Collective to plan your visit!
