Spooky season may be over, but the fun never stops at Birch Tree Communities! Our Halloween celebrations were packed with goodies, games, giving, and plenty of laughter. No tricks, just treats for our amazing members!

A special shoutout to Evergreen members who kept the spirit of giving alive by surprising a local nursing home with goody bags. Halloween was the perfect kickoff to the holiday season, and we can’t wait for more moments of joy ahead! 💚

What’s better than fresh air, friendly competition, and a little fun in the sun?!

Our Clinton branch recently hosted a member softball tournament, complete with great games, teamwork, and a cookout to top it off!
We had record participation this year and loved seeing everyone cheering, playing hard, and lifting each other up. Congrats to our MVP and to the Conway branch for taking home the trophy! 🏆

Win or lose, it was truly a home run for everyone! 💚

Birch Tree Communities CEO Elected President of Arkansas Council for Behavioral Health

Dr. Brad Holloway, Chief Executive Officer of Birch Tree Communities, has been elected President of the Arkansas Council for Behavioral Health. His two-year term began on October 2, 2025.

The Arkansas Council for Behavioral Health is a nonprofit organization representing behavioral health and substance use disorder providers across the state. The council advocates for legislation, policy, and funding to improve the lives of Arkansans living with behavioral health and substance use disorders. Its mission is to advance a comprehensive and innovative system of care based on evidence-based practices that support prevention, treatment, and recovery.

Dr. Holloway brings more than 40 years of clinical and administrative experience to this statewide leadership role. His career began as a therapist at Southeast Arkansas Behavioral Healthcare System (SABHS), where he later served as Lincoln County Director and Assistant Administrator. He went on to hold leadership roles at Mid-South Health Systems, Vantage Point Behavioral Health, and the Little Rock Community Mental Health Center.

Since joining Birch Tree Communities in 2018 as Clinical Director and Chief Operations Officer, Dr. Holloway has played a vital role in shaping the organization’s mission. He was named CEO in 2022. Birch Tree Communities is a nonprofit behavioral health provider offering rehabilitative treatment and supportive housing for adults with serious mental illness. With 12 branches across Arkansas, it serves approximately 400 members living with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and schizoaffective disorder.

In addition to his leadership in behavioral health, Dr. Holloway has served as a disaster mental health volunteer with the American Red Cross, responding to natural disasters and national tragedies, including leading a clinical team at the Pentagon following the 9/11 attacks. He has received numerous appointments, including to the State Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Board by Governor Bill Clinton, the Governor’s Safe Campus Task Force by Governor Mike Beebe, and the State Commission to Reform Documentation of Juvenile Cases by Chief Justice Jack Holt, Jr.

A dedicated educator and researcher, Dr. Holloway taught at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, Arkansas State University, and the University of Arkansas at Monticello. He has published widely on mental health topics and presented both nationally and internationally, including in Canada and Israel.

Dr. Holloway is a native of Star City, Arkansas, where he was active in local government and community service while advancing his behavioral health career. He and his wife Rhonda, a home health nurse, have three children and four grandchildren. In his free time, he enjoys hunting, fishing, and golf.

Clinton Branch Hits the Buffalo River!

Our Clinton members and staff just wrapped up their 3rd annual weekend getaway to the beautiful Buffalo River, and what a trip it was! From floating and games to cookouts and campfire chats, the weekend was full of sunshine, laughter, and connection.

All but one member made the trip, and for one first-time attendee, the experience was so moving he teared up, saying he couldn’t believe staff would bring him to such a beautiful place.

Huge thanks to our amazing Clinton team for creating unforgettable moments like this. You make a difference every day!

We are excited to share some fantastic news: the Birch Tree Communities Expressive Arts Program has once again been selected as a recipient of the Arkansas Arts Council’s Community Arts Project Grant for Fiscal Year 2026!

This marks the second consecutive year we’ve received this generous grant, which plays a vital role in supporting our expressive arts program and presenting the 20th Annual Expressions Art Show, coming in April 2026.

The Community Arts Project Grant is designed to support initiatives that bring meaningful art experiences to communities that traditionally have limited access, particularly rural or underserved populations. The grants support a wide range of programming, from visual art exhibitions and performing arts events to multi-disciplinary arts activities that engage both artists and audiences alike.

At Birch Tree Communities, we believe in the power of the arts to foster healing, connection, and self-expression. The continued support from the Arkansas Arts Council affirms the value of our work and helps ensure that our members have access to enriching creative opportunities year after year.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Arkansas Arts Council for their ongoing partnership and commitment to making the arts accessible to all.

Stay tuned for more updates on the 20th Annual Expressions Art Show and other upcoming events!

We Believe in Recovery

Birch Tree Communities, Inc believes in the power of relationships and we believe that relationships help lead to recovery! We serve more than 400 adults in Arkansas that live with serious mental illness and we serve them with patience and persistence; not regarding symptoms of illness as evidence of failure. We work every day to reduce stigma in our communities. We work every day to help our members to have a better quality of life. We work every day to advocate for our members and we want to empower them to advocate for themselves.
