In Memory Of

Alice Baxter, 71, of Kuttawa, Kentucky, and a former Benton, Kentucky resident of 24 years, passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at River Bend Retirement Community in Kuttawa.

Alice was born in Halls, Tennessee, on July 13, 1954, to the late Bob and Helen Acklin Kinninmonth. She was a devoted homemaker who loved caring for her family. Alice meant what she said in her wedding vows, and in sickness, she took care of her husband, who suffered a stroke for fifteen years before his passing, and did so selflessly. She was a devout Christian who attended Zion's Cause Church and loved her church family dearly.

In her younger years, she quite enjoyed the outdoors and fishing. She also loved exploring and finding treasures while shopping at flea markets and antique shops. Alice’s kind heart extended to animals as well; she had a soft spot for all of them, especially dogs.

Alice is survived by one son, Kevin Baxter (Brittany) of Benton, Kentucky; one brother, Dale Kinninmonth of West Tennessee; one nephew, Troy Kinninmonth of Union City, Tennessee; and two grandchildren, Brooks Baxter and Neely Baxter.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Jerry Baxter; and her parents, Bob Kinninmonth and Helen Acklin Kinninmonth.

Expressions of sympathy can be made in the form of donation to the Kentucky Sheriff’s Boys & Girls Ranch, P.O. Box 57, Gilbertsville, KY 42044.

Visitation will be from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM on Friday, December 26, 2025, at Filbeck-Cann Funeral Home of Milner & Orr, 1117 Poplar Street, Benton, KY 42025.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, December 26, 2025, at Filbeck-Cann Funeral Home of Milner & Orr with Bro. Gary Cruse officiating. Burial will follow at Marshall County Memory Gardens.

In Memory of

Michael Travis, 40, of Benton, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, December 19, 2025, at Marshall County Hospital.

Michael was born on November 6, 1985, in Lafayette, Louisiana, to parents Dennis Travis and Linda Reed. He attended Marshall County High School before attending West Kentucky Community and Technical College. His passion for science and math ultimately led him to the University of Kentucky, where he pursued a degree in mechanical engineering.

After graduating, Michael devoted his career to Spectrum, working as a field technician. Outside of his professional life, he had a passion for cooking, enjoyed swimming, cherished time spent with his family, and loved playing video games, particularly Mortal Kombat.

However, it was Michael's humorous and brash personality that truly set him apart. Always eager for a friendly debate, he often challenged others with his sharp intellect and quick wit. Life, for Michael, was not only about what he loved but also about who he loved, with his family holding the most significant place in his heart. His absence creates a profound void in the lives of many, yet the memories of his laughter and kindness will forever linger.

He is survived by his partner of over 20 years, Melissa Driver of Benton; his daughter, Marley Travis of Benton; his mother, Linda Reed of Smithland; his stepfather, Mike Reed of Smithland; one brother, Ryan Travis (Kelly) of McKinney, Texas; two nephews, Max Travis and Thad Travis; his aunt, Dana Spears of Benton; and one cousin, Tiffinie Lovett of Benton.

In Memory Of

Janet “Tootsie” Ashbaugh, 84, of Symsonia, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at Baptist Health Hospital of Paducah, Kentucky.

Janet was the third born of four children, born to the late Joseph and Janet Morrison Tobolik, on April 25, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois. After relocating to Kentucky in 1970, Janet met and married the love of her life, Warren Ashbaugh. Not one to have lived a soft life growing up, Janet’s move to Kentucky not only yielded a wonderful marriage, but also the accomplishment of being the first woman in Graves County to be hired by the Board of Education as a custodian for the Graves County School system. She carried this honor proudly during a time when women’s equality was a relatively new concept.

Janet was a homebody and loved the atmosphere she built within the walls of her home. She would spend her time listening to 70s genre music, especially ABBA, and dancing around the house. She enjoyed a good crossword puzzle and watching old westerns. She was partial to any western featuring John Wayne. When she wasn’t watching cowboys save the day, she was watching University of Kentucky Wildcats Basketball games. She made sure to always catch as many games as she could.

Janet came off as tough and rough around the edges, but carried a very big and generous heart. She was an ardent giver who donated anonymously and faithfully to a local Baptist Church and to one of our local schools. She was also passionate about donating to the Veterans’ Administration. This was a way to honor her late husband’s military service and all those who have served.

Janet valued family. After losing her husband and both of her sons, she made sure to maintain close connections with her sisters. She would host gatherings at her home for her sisters, and they would revel in each other's company and memories. Along with the quality time together, they loved to eat and laugh, always ordering from Portillo’s Italian Beef Restaurant and a Junior’s Cheesecake, which was sure to be a nostalgic reminder of their childhood in Chicago.

Janet is survived by one sister, Wilma Weinreich of Phoenix, Arizona; two nephews, Clay Brown and Terry Tobolik; and two nieces, Linda Millar and Bonnie Bishop.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Ashbaugh; two sons, Joseph Miller and Shane Ashbaugh; one sister, Mary Brown; one brother, Joe Tobolik; and her parents, Joseph and Janet Morrison Tobolik.

In Memory of

Larry Dale Sullivan, 71, of Benton, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at Baptist Health in Paducah, Kentucky.

Larry was born on June 16, 1954, in Cairo, Illinois, to the late William Baxter Sullivan and Eleanora Lorraine Maynard Sullivan. From an early age, Larry had a strong passion for competition. His parents often took him and his brother Fred to watch races whenever possible, igniting his love for the sport. This drive for competition became even more evident during his teenage years at North Marshall High School, where he was one of only two students to participate in four different sports: track, baseball, basketball, and football.

Larry was not a stranger to hard work. After graduating from North Marshall High School in 1972, he briefly attended college before securing a position with TVA in LBL, where his love for nature truly began. He later took on a role as a heavy equipment operator for IUOE Local 181 based in Paducah, proudly contributing to the construction of I-24 and various other significant projects in the area. Following many years in this role, Larry was presented with an opportunity to work as an operator at General Tire, which later led to a lengthy career in multiple manufacturing plants in Calvert City. He dedicated many years to Carbide Industries and Degussa before joining GAF, now known as Ashland, where he served as a Boiler Operator until his retirement. During his time at the plants, Larry’s love for cooking would often lead him to prepare and cook meals for many of his coworkers, with his “Sully Burgers” being one of the top favorites and most requested. Larry was also a long-time member of the Calvert City Masonic Lodge #543.

Outside of his professional life, Larry's passion for the outdoors and sports was obvious throughout his entire life. He loved vacationing and traveling, always opting for backroads whenever possible, with his trusty Atlas by his side. Many times, he would find reasons to take family and friends to Land Between the Lakes, to explore the area, and at times even enjoy watching the sunsets. His vast love of music spanned multiple genres, but he was especially fond of blues music and rarely missed the chance to attend the Hot August Blues Festival in Aurora. His passion for sports remained a significant part of his life and never faded. From playing softball with the Brew Crew team into his 40s to attending dirt track races with loved ones and cheering on his two sons from the sidelines of their sports, Larry thrived on the excitement of competition. He was a dedicated fan of UK Basketball and the St. Louis Cardinals, and also enjoyed watching NASCAR and practically any form of racing. Above all, Larry's heart belonged to his family. The time he spent surrounded by his wife, kids, and grandchildren are the moments that he cherished the most. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, love, a life well lived, and a man well-loved.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Jean Story Sullivan; his two sons, Corey Sullivan (Jennifer) of Benton and John Sullivan (Angie) of Paducah; one stepdaughter, Laura Story of Tampa, Florida; one stepson, Alan Story (Jessica) of Knoxville, Tennessee, one brother, Fred Sullivan (Jeane) of Calvert City; ten grandchildren, Cameron Sullivan, Baylee Sullivan, Noah Green, Cole Green, Austin Ledford, Jacob Ledford, Jessica Ledford, Chloey Story, Briley Story and Piper Story; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Baxter Sullivan and Eleanora Lorraine Sullivan.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at the Life Celebration Center of Filbeck-Cann, 1003 Poplar Street, Benton, KY.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at the Life Celebration Center of Filbeck-Cann with Jim Capps officiating. Private family burial will follow at Calvert City Cemetery.

In Memory of

Kal “Rickie” Castleberry, 65, of Benton, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at the Ray & Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center.

Rickie was born on April 10, 1960, in Paducah, Kentucky, to William “Bill” Castleberry and Shirley May Green Castleberry. After graduating from Reidland High School in 1978, he attended Paducah Community College and later began working as a cabinetmaker, which fueled his passion for woodworking. Soon after, he took on the role of Electrical Design Technician at Marcum Engineering and Consulting, where he dedicated nearly 20 years of his professional life. In his later years, Rickie transitioned to HVAC Sales at Ingram’s Water and Air before retiring.

A man of diverse interests, Rickie loved staying active and enjoyed tinkering with various projects. Known as a “Jack of all trades,” he was a talented craftsman who not only enjoyed fixing items but also sought to recreate and enhance things he had seen. He spent many hours working in the garage, tinkering with a variety of projects, most recently creating rings made from quarters and also paracord bracelets. If he wasn’t working in the garage, he enjoyed going fishing, attending car shows, or going to the drag races. Having never met a stranger, Rickie enjoyed being around others and meeting new people. Often, his big heart would lead him to find ways to be generous and help others. More than anything else, Rickie loved his family. He loved spending time with his wife and two sons, especially his two granddaughters, who would light up whenever they saw him.

Rickie is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ginger Lynne Castleberry; his two sons, Josh Castleberry (Carrie) of Benton and Adam Castleberry of Paduchah; his two granddaughters, Cora Castleberry and Cali Castleberry; his parents, Bill Castleberry and Shirley May Castleberry; and several nieces and nephews.

In Memory Of

James Earl "Slim Jim" Housden, 87, of Symsonia, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, December 5, 2025, at Continue Care Hospital of Baptist Health in Paducah, Kentucky.

James was born on April 24, 1938, in McCracken County, Kentucky, to the late Curtis and Noma Lee Smith Housden. He worked as a millwright at GAF Manufacturing / ISP Chemicals in Calvert City, Kentucky, for over three decades. James’ work ethic started early on as he began working alongside his Grandpa Smith on his farm when he was a young boy. He also learned to cook at a young age with firsthand instruction from his great-grandmother, Ma, on days he wasn’t able to help on the farm.

James' dedication to his work was only matched by his devotion to his faith and community. A member of the New Harmony Missionary Baptist Church for over fifty years, James was an integral part of the church's growth and spirit. He took an active role in the church's direction and well-being, serving on the Board of Trustees and playing a pivotal role in church security, ensuring the safety of all those who entered.

James' selflessness was evident through his consistent volunteer work for Meals of Love and Soup for the Soul. Through these programs, James helped to feed and bring warmth to countless individuals in need. He enjoyed the outdoors, whether he was fishing, hunting, raising a large vegetable garden or throwing some meat on the smoker. When he wasn’t volunteering or enjoying the outdoors, you could find him cheering the University of Kentucky Wildcats on during basketball season and the Buffalo Bills during football season.

Those who knew James often described him as creative and handy. He had a knack for fixing things. His hands were rarely still, as he was always involved in a project or lending his assistance where it was needed. From HVAC work, welding, and operating equipment, James was able to do it all. Most importantly, though, James used whatever knowledge and skills he had to always be of service to his family, which is how he showed his love and care for them all.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Janet Myers Housden of Symsonia, Kentucky; three daughters, Sherry Hack of Symsonia, Stephanie Riley (Willie) of Paducah, Kentucky, and Susanne Merry of Symsonia; one son, James Paul Housden (Joy McEwen) of Mt. Vernon, Washington; ten grandchildren, Joshua Hack (Leslie), Jessica Eddington, Jordan Riley, Dillon Housden, Collin Housden, Cameron Merry, Roman Housden, Piper Housden, Marcella Litrenta, and Augie Litrenta; two great grandchildren, Aaron Hack and Justin Hack; and a host of near, dear cousins.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Joe Paul Housden; and his parents, Curtis and Noma Lee Smith Housden.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or to any Humane Society of your choice in his honor.

Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at our Milner & Orr Paducah Lone Oak Chapel, 3745 Old US Hwy 45 S, Paducah, KY 42003. Per James’ request, no suits or ties, casual attire only.
