A Joint Statement from the Marshall County Veterans Support Group
Including A Soldier’s Heart: Bluegrass & Muddy Waters

The vandalism that occurred this morning at the Jerry G. English Veteran’s Honor Plaza in Mike Miller Park is deeply troubling and completely unacceptable. This space stands as a tribute to the men and women who served our nation with honor, and any act that disrespects that legacy affects our entire community.

As part of the Marshall County Veterans Support Group, we strongly condemn these actions and support appropriate accountability through the proper channels.

We also urge our community to refrain from sharing the names or identities of the youth involved. Public exposure—especially online—can lead to long‑term harm, bullying, and consequences that extend far beyond what is appropriate or constructive.

Instead, let’s respond in a way that reflects the values our veterans fought to protect.
Let’s come together, restore what was damaged, and continue honoring the memory and legacy of our nation’s heroes for generations to come.

Christmas came early, hunters! Thank you, Kentucky!

Veterans/Active-Duty Military Waterfowl Hunting Opportunity – This Sunday (Feb. 😎 🦆

Kentucky’s special Veterans and Active-Duty Military Waterfowl Season offers additional hunting opportunity for those who have served. This Sunday, February 8, eligible veterans can take part in a dedicated waterfowl hunting day outside of the regular season.

This season is made possible under federal frameworks that allow states two veteran-only waterfowl hunting days in addition to the standard 60-day season.

Who can participate:
✔️ Must meet veteran qualifications (page 9 in the guide)
✔️ Must have proper licenses, HIP registration, and a Federal Duck Stamp

Accompanying hunters:
-Non-veterans may accompany veteran hunters
-Non-veterans may not harvest ducks during this veteran-only day

This is a small way to recognize and thank our veterans for their service while enjoying Kentucky’s waterfowl traditions. Best of luck and hunt safely!

Today we honor the life & legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. A leader who stood firmly for justice, dignity & peace. Dr. King believed deeply in service, unity & the responsibility we share to care for one another.

He consistently acknowledged the sacrifices of Veterans. His vision reminds us that service doesn’t end with a uniform, it continues through how we uplift our communities & stand for one another.

At A Soldier’s Heart, we are grateful for Dr. King’s enduring message & for all Veterans who have served with honor. May we continue to lead with empathy, strengthen our communities & work toward the just & peaceful future he envisioned.
