Seeing my name in TIME's headlines is one of those rare, disorienting (in a good way), deeply‑honoring moments. It’s not just that my commentary is featured in such an iconic publication — it’s what I got to talk about. This piece goes straight to the heart of my work: how neurodivergent people navigate authenticity, communication, and the constant pressure to sound “correct” online.

Being invited into this conversation matters. It means ND‑literate language is making its way into mainstream spaces. It means our lived experiences — the masking, the misread signals, the fear of being perceived as “robotic” or “too much” — are finally being treated as culturally relevant, not niche.

“Clutter isn’t a sign of laziness — it often happens when life’s demands outpace our mental capacity.” — Dr. Stephanie Steele-Wren, PsyD.

🧠 She explains to Real Simple that when your brain is overloaded, your space can start to feel neglected — not because you don’t care, but because you simply don’t have the emotional bandwidth to keep up.

📍 Clutter increases cognitive load, meaning your brain has to constantly process everything around you, which can drain focus and energy.

🌪️ For some people, especially those who are more sensitive or neurodivergent, clutter creates sensory chaos that makes it harder to rest or transition between tasks.

💛 Her big takeaway? Clutter is a sign of mental overload, not a character flaw — and creating a space that soothes rather than stresses you, matters more than perfection.

✨ The Social Hangover Is Real ✨
For many neurodivergent people, social gatherings can be both meaningful and exhausting. Even when you enjoy the company, your brain might be working overtime — reading cues, managing sensory input, masking, shifting topics, or navigating group dynamics.
🧠 Recharging isn't avoiding — it's regulating.

Here are ways to help:
🌿 Quiet alone time
🎧 Noise-free or noise-controlled space
📝 Journaling to process the experience
