Respiratory viruses
The flu, COVID-19, and RSV are all circulating. In Northeast Ohio, there has been an increase in the positivity rate for influenza A, while RSV and SARS-CoV-2 have plateaued.
Colds and upper respiratory infections
These viral illnesses can cause a cough, runny nose, fever, sore throat, and sneezing.
Bronchiolitis
A viral illness that usually affects children under age 2. Symptoms include a cough, fever, runny nose, and wheezing.
Croup
A viral respiratory illness that causes a barky cough, difficulty inhaling, and a labored breathing sound.
Hand, foot, and mouth disease
A viral illness that causes a fever and small blisters on the hands, feet, and in the mouth.
Strep throat
A bacterial illness that causes a fever, sore throat, headache, and stomachache.
Pink eye
A contagious condition that can be caused by a virus or bacteria. Viral pink eye causes red, watery eyes, while bacterial pink eye causes red eyes with a yellow or green discharge.
Herpangina
A viral illness that causes small blisters or ulcers in the back of the throat or on the roof of the mouth. Children with herpangina may also have a high fever.
