Surgical care at Saint Joseph Hospital just leveled up! This morning, we completed our first case assisted by the new da Vinci 5 surgical robot. 🤖 John Dvorak, MD, performed the first surgery and cut the opening-day ribbon alongside our surgical team and leaders.

The DV5 allows our surgeons enhanced precision and better visualization, improving patient outcomes and shortening recovery times with smaller incisions. As the first health system to offer this latest advancement in surgical technology in Lexington, we’re proud to provide care that is innovative, patient-centered and transformative for our patients and community.

Eliseo Colon, MD, was named Continuing Care Hospital’s 2024 Physician of the Year, an award recognizing his clinical leadership and team-based approach in treating pulmonary and critical care patients. As he makes rounds, he says he explains the “whys” to fellow caregivers and practices Saint Joseph’s values when talking to patients and families.

“Being compassionate. You have to understand the patient. You sit down next to them, you talk to them. You tell the truth—integrity. Also, you’ve got to respect when they make a decision.”

Dr. Colon has been with the Saint Joseph ministry for 15 years and is part of a team of pulmonology specialists, treating many patients with chronic lung diseases, pulmonary fibrosis, emphysema and COPD. Lung cancer and to***co use rates in Kentucky are above the national average, something the team tries to combat by offering smoking cessation resources and educating patients on the risks. November is , and while Dr. Colon says it’s frustrating to see patients who smoke or casually use electronic ci******es, he also says it’s rewarding to help patients improve their lives by quitting.

“We have to work on breaking bad habits,” he said. His arsenal includes showing patients the results of their pulmonary function test, X-rays or CT scans. “It’s rewarding to see someone say ‘I quit smoking,’” he said. Read more about Dr. Colon: https://ow.ly/zboG50XtyZa

We’re proud to share that four Saint Joseph Health facilities have been recognized by Healthgrades, a leading resource consumers use when searching for a doctor or hospital, with a variety of awards for clinical excellence across our ministry and service lines of care.

Saint Joseph Hospital was ranked among the top 3 hospitals in Kentucky and one of America’s 100 best for critical care, and received recognition for excellence in both pulmonary and critical care. Saint Joseph East was recognized for excellence in outpatient prostate care, including being named among the top 10% in the nation. Both facilities received a five-star rating for treatment of pneumonia and sepsis.

Saint Joseph Berea was recognized with a five-star rating for treatment of respiratory failure, and also received a five-star rating for treatment of sepsis alongside Saint Joseph London.

These awards are based solely on what matters most: patient outcomes. It’s ! Kindness isn’t just good for others—it’s good for you! 💛 Research shows that showing kindness can:

🌿 Reduce stress, anxiety and depression
😊 Increase happiness and life satisfaction
🤝 Strengthen relationships and community
💪 Even support physical health by lowering stress

And here’s something amazing—kindness is actually contagious. When we witness kindness, we’re more likely to pay it forward. Every small act matters: a smile, a helping hand, a kind word.

Spread a little today—you might just make someone’s day (and improve your own).
