Fight, flight, and freeze aren’t behaviors children choose — they’re survival responses.

When a child’s nervous system perceives danger (even when they’re safe), their body shifts into high alert. Stress hormones rise, calming chemicals drop, and it becomes harder for the nervous system to return to a regulated state.

This is why small things can feel big — and why logic alone doesn’t help in the moment.

At Wonder Kids, occupational therapy focuses on the nervous system first. We help identify what pushes a child into high alert, and what helps their body feel safe again — lowering stress and supporting regulation through intentional sensory activities.

When kids spend more time in green, challenges feel more manageable — and they learn for themselves what helps their bodies stay regulated.

Occupational Therapy is often misunderstood.

It’s not just working on fine motor skills.
It’s not only handwriting or scissors.
And it’s not about fixing behavior.

OT looks at the whole child —
how their body moves, processes, and responds to the world
across play, learning, emotions, and daily routines.

Through intentional, goal-driven play,
children build the foundations for regulation, confidence, and independence.

If this helped you understand OT a little more,
you’re already doing something right 🤍

Deep pressure isn’t just comforting — it helps the body calm itself.

When kids feel stressed, their nervous systems need physical input to feel safe again. Hugs, squeezes, and other deep pressure strategies help restore balance so kids can settle and focus. When the body feels safer, children are less likely to tip into stress mode — and everyday moments feel easier for everyone.

Head-turning preferences are common — and meaningful.

They’re not something to panic about, but they are worth paying attention to. Early movement patterns shape how babies build strength, coordination, and symmetry throughout their bodies.

At Wonder Kids, we support balanced development early so babies don’t have to compensate later.

If handwriting feels hard, it’s often not about effort —
it’s about readiness.

Writing is built on posture, core strength, coordination, hand strength and endurance.
When those foundations are supported, handwriting can develop.

At Wonder Kids, we look at the whole child and support what their body needs first
✨ so skills don’t feel like a struggle.

Does your child put everything in their mouth —
chewing sleeves, collars, toys, or pencils?

For many children, chewing helps their body feel calm, focused, and organized. It’s not a habit to stop — it’s a form of regulation.

When we simply remove the behavior without understanding why it’s happening, children often find another way to meet the same need.

At Wonder Kids, we look underneath the behavior.

We help children:
• build regulation and body awareness
• find safe, supportive ways to meet sensory needs

So regulation feels easier — and behaviors don’t have to work as hard.

Crawling isn’t a trick — it’s a process.

If your baby isn’t crawling yet, their body may need help building the strength, stability, and coordination that come before hands-and-knees crawling.

At Wonder Kids, we look underneath the milestone to understand what your child’s nervous system and body are working on — and support development from the ground up 🤍

If a child is holding onto a habit, it’s usually because their body still needs it.

Thumb sucking and pacifiers can be powerful tools for regulation early on. When they persist, it’s an invitation to look deeper — not to push harder.

Supporting the nervous system helps children feel safe enough to let go.
