This is an image from an 1899 teaching manual of the subtle anatomy.
Last week, in our Journey Through the Chakras, we explored the root or base chakra (Muladhara). Tonight, Thursday, January 29th, 7:30pm EST, we will explore the sacral chakra (Svadhistana).
The close up is of the sacral chakra, Svadhistana, where the forces that make up being a human being abide.
Teaching diagrams like this use symbols to convey meaning.
Do you see in the center an elephant on a white bird?
This is the elephant-headed god Ganesha sitting "in lotus" on Paramahamsa, the supreme white swan. Ganesha is the gatekeeper of subconscious memory -karma and past lives, where the past influences the present. Paramahamsa, the soul, can separate milk from water, symbolizing the ability to discern truth from illusion, comfortable in both the world of form and spirit.
The ancient eastern practitioners used symbols to point to the energies that govern and influence each part of our subtle body's anatomy.
Notice the 6 petals of the lotus. Each petal points to a mutable force of influence in that part of our energetic anatomy.
praśraya - Attachment or Indulgence (giving in to cravings)
sarvanāśa - arrogance leading to self-sabotage
aviśvāsa - distrust or suspicion
avajñā - contempt, disdain or indifference
mūrcchā - ignorance or delusion
krūratā - anger, ruthlessnes or even cruelty
The western teachings whittle them down to; Anger, Jealousy, Cruelty, Hatred, Pride, Desire/lust
The master-teacher would point to the seed syllable in a petal and ask, "how are you doing with this?"
Ganesha governs these energies. We can not bypass them.
We can either get stuck here, or be carried on the wings of our wise soul
The sacral energy center governs our creativity, passion, emotions, friendships and romantic relationships, sensuality, fertility and abundance.
How are you doing with these?
Feeling stuck?
You are not stuck, but energy might be.
