The old adage teaches us that "Home is where the heart is," which is why home is also where our hearts can most easily be broken. Broken through anger. Broken through bullying. Broken, most wrenchingly, through violence. Jewish homes are not immune to domestic abuse, nor are we free from the shame and stigma that too often enables this heartbreak to continue unseen. We have been fortunate that our lives remain untouched by the hand of abuse, but we also know lives that are not. That's why we are extremely thankful that Shalom Bayit is here so that Jewish survivors of abuse know that they do not suffer alone. By helping to raise awareness in our communities, those who suffer can find the courage to come forward and begin the journey to wholeness. And Shalom Bayit will accompany them on that journey through their many programs tailored to support the specific needs of survivors.
We are called to engage in Tikkun Olam, Repairing the World. That task is too big for any individual to accomplish alone, but alone we can choose to do our part. That's why we have become Chai Club members at Shalom Bayit, supporting their great work through monthly giving. At a challenging time for nonprofit organizations, the predictability of this model offers needed stability to agencies that seek to repair the world. We hope you will consider joining us in supporting Shalom Bayit in this manner and in thinking about Shalom Bayit in your Giving Tuesday plans.
