The elderly and frail/ill often have no idea how dehydrated they are, and before the imminent signs of active dying are occurring, people do need require hydration. These are a great way for those who are having difficulty swallowing, and/or have no interest in water but need hydration to do so willingly. Caveat: There are many times when something like this would be contraindicated so I would not use them without approval by an attending medical professional.
