Introducing the latest edition of our âPeople Behind the Productâ series, where we celebrate the incredible individuals who make up our diverse team worldwide. We are thrilled to introduce Ryan Cornelius, Constellation Support Specialist.
In his role with the Constellation team, Ryan ensures that every installation performs to its highest potential, providing guidance and technical insight from design to final tuning. Ryanâs collaborative approach empowers our partners and venues to achieve truly immersive acoustic environments that reflect the Meyer Sound standard of innovation and performance.
To get to know Ryan better, we asked him a few questions about his work at Meyer Sound and life beyond the office.
Question: What is your favorite Meyer Sound memory?
Answer: Itâs tough to pick just one, but my favorite Meyer Sound memories are always those first moments of experiencing a new product. Thereâs something magical about hearing the possibilities for the first time. Each launchâwhether it was Constellation, NADIA, PANTHER, LEOPARD, Galileo GALAXY, VLFC, ULTRA-X40, or ASTRYAâhas left me inspired and reminded me why I love what we do. Those moments stay with me.
Q: What was your first job?
A: My first job was as a paperboy for the Santa Cruz Sentinelâsomething Iâm not even sure exists anymore. I still remember the early mornings, the smell of newsprint, and how my hands would turn black from rolling papers. My first route took me along the cliffs on the east side of Santa Cruz, where Iâd watch the sun rise over Monterey Bay as I delivered the news. For a kid, it felt both like an adventure and a responsibility, and those quiet mornings are still some of my favorite memories.
Q: What book is on your bedside table?
A: I donât have a book on my bedside table right now, but the last thing I read was a report my brother recently found from when I was in 6th grade. It was titled âWhy I Like to Do Sound.â Reading it now, I never would have believed that simple passion could shape the rest of my life. I feel grateful that what I loved as a kid grew into a career that has taken me so far and brought me here to Meyer Sound.
Q: What is an achievement you are proud of?
A: Iâm not sure Iâd call it an achievement, but when I look back on my career, Iâm proud of the experiences and travel it has given me. As a kid, I wrote a report about why I liked sound in the same house I still live in todayâI never could have imagined it would take me around the globe (more than once). For 20 years I was, in a way, âkidnappedâ by a comedian and a few rock stars, and those tours gave me memories Iâll never forget. I had the honor of joining a USO tour, traveling through the Middle East with a Saudi Arabian prince, and shows in Indiaâthe country where my dad was bornâwhich was truly a dream come true. One of the most surreal moments was a few years ago in Scotland, when we had to pause loading in at a castle for a procession, only to watch the Crown drive through during the King of the United Kingdom's coronation in Edinburgh. My career has given me so many extraordinary memories, and Iâm grateful for every one of them.
Q: Sweet or savory?
A: Sweet, without a doubt. My family has always had a sweet tooth, and my mom was especially known for her chocolate caramel brownies. She passed away in June, and this summer weâve been baking her brownies together, trying to capture that special taste she made so well. Itâs been a comforting way to feel close to her and keep her memory alive.
Q: Dogs or cats? Do you have any pets?
A: I grew up with both dogs and cats, and I love both, but these days, itâs all cats. Weâve got three: an all-white Turkish Angora, an all-black domestic longhair, and our newest addition, a white British shorthair who somehow sheds more than the other two combined. Truth is, the cats own the houseâI just pay the bills.
Q: Whatâs one thing people donât know about you?
A: After almost a decade together, Kim and I are eloping this fall â call it the ultimate permanent install.
