Small changes. Big impact.

It does not take much to make a big difference in your health. By losing only 5% of your weight, you cut your risk of developing by more than half. The simplest way to lose that little bit of weight is by eating healthy and getting daily activity. This could be achieved by taking in 100 less calories per day (consider a beverage, treat, or less than healthy snack) and walking for 30 minutes. The smallest changes can make a big impact on your health.

Lifestyle not drugs. More benefits, fewer side effects.

All 3,234 study participants in the Prevention Program Study were overweight and had , which are well-known risk factors for the development of type 2 Diabetes. Participants in the lifestyle intervention group reduced their risk of developing diabetes by 58%. This finding was true across all participating ethnic groups and for both sexes. Lifestyle changes worked particularly well for participants aged 60 and older, reducing their risk by 71%.

Laughter really is the best medicine.

Aaron Burr's sage advice in , "Talk less, Smile more," is good for your health. Blood sugar normally goes up after a meal, but could something like laughter affect how much it goes up? Researchers tested this by measuring blood sugar of people with type 2 diabetes before and after a meal. They then had the people attend either a boring 40-minute lecture or a 40-minute comedy show. When people watched the comedy show they had a much smaller rise in blood sugar after the meal than they did when they watched the boring lecture. Don't forget the saying: "Laughter is the best medicine."
