Behavior Reimagined, LLC ABA, Autism, Developmental Disabilities, In home therapy, Insurance accepted, East Bay CA, Contra Costa County, Alameda County

Behavior Reimagined is expansive in its views of behavioral interventions and individual development. People of all ages and learning styles can benefit from ABA interventions. If you bring us a need, we will create a program that makes sense to you while seeking out appropriate funding sources. We have a great respect for neurodiversity and expanding our communities' belief systems surrounding the concept of "appropriate behavior". Our interventions are purposefully naturalistic in order to ensure that learning does not occur in a bubble that makes generalization difficult. We greatly value the perspectives and expertise of providers within the fields of ABA, developmental psychology, education, occupational therapy, speech, physical therapy, and early childhood development. Our goal is to be as collaborative as possible to create sustainable, positive, and socially significant behavior change.

There are not enough words in any language to describe the impact Feda Almaliti and her son Mu had on the world. Their relationship and their struggles inspired a movement to guarantee fully funded access to individualized care for people with autism. Behavior Reimagined would not exist without Feda’s work. I was blessed to know her and hope to honor her legacy with the work we do each day. My heart aches for each and every person feeling their loss today.

Feda Almaliti’s push for comprehensive care for children with autism, such as speech therapy and occupational therapy, helped change California law.

Managing ABA programs in the Bay Area during the COVID-19 outbreak is a constantly moving target. The 3 week shelter in place that starts at 12:01a on Tuesday is not yet well understood in terms of impact on medically necessary services. We are staying connected to our funding sources, human resources, and the news to be able to provide everyone with the latest information. We ask that everyone try to stay calm as we assess our next steps and we will communicate what we know, when we know it. Stay safe!

Looking forward to 2020 being the best year yet at Behavior Reimagined. As we've grown, we've been able to develop exciting new positions for every level of employee we have at the company. The vision for this year is to continue to design individualized job positions and descriptions for our staff in order to maximize everyone's skills and talents while allowing them areas to learn and grow. We are digging deep to design more tools and processes to support all positions and ensuring that these are in line with our collaborative, empathic, accountable, team driven model. Stay tuned for updates on our creative solutions to common problems and the honest posts about failed attempts. We learn and grow through trial and error and finding the learning opportunities in success and failure are equally important. I can't wait to see what this year brings! -Jennifer

This is a very strong held belief for me. I was raised to be ultra competitive and have worked for so many organizations where internal competition destroyed positive relationships and naturally collaborative groups. We learn so much more by sharing/discussing/refining ideas than we do by trying keep things to ourselves in order to “own” an idea or a success. The work also gets done more quickly and efficiently if collaborators identify their strengths and weaknesses and mutually agree to divide the work based on this knowledge.

Good leaders recognize the negative consequences of pitting people and teams against each other.

I love the number of connections I have in the field of ABA. Recently I've had several opportunities to talk to people about leadership, career growth, company expansions and job negotiations. In having these types of discussions, not only do I get to give advice and know that it is appreciated, but I also get to engage in a dialogue that helps me frame my role within my company and my community.

If I advise someone to ask a set of questions about a particular job opportunity, I reflect on how well I could answer that question if I were the one interviewing them. Does my company have that role? Does it need it? Is it well defined? Do the expectations outlined within the job description actually fully encompass the role the employee has signed up for and is doing? If that person were to leave, do we have a plan for how to fill that gap?

If I asked pointed questions about diversity in leadership and creating opportunities for adding more voices to the community, I also reflect on how my hiring practices and my advocacy efforts are in alignment with the solutions I propose to others for solving these challenges. These are conversations where listening is just as, if not more important than speaking. Learning to reflect on what others are saying before formulating a response is one of the greatest skills I have worked on developing over the past 20 years. It isn't always easy, but it's really worth the effort.

Women in Leadership Panel! Did you know that 86% of the behavior analytic field are women? Perhaps not given how many men own companies or fill up the management structure within the field of ABA. Having more and more opportunities to see women discuss their leadership in the field helps keep me centered as a female business owner and BCBA.

Attending the 5th Annual Leadership Summit in Costa Mesa, CA today. First up, a one time only talk from Sarah Trautman, BCBA: Recovering from a PR and Ethical Disaster: Lessons Learned That You Won’t Get in an Ethics Class.

This talk outlines how CalABA leadership responded to a complex problem that arose at the 2018 conference. I was lucky enough to have been in room when the situation occurred as well as to be a part of some of the follow up conversations that led to the resolutions the CalABA board engaged in. It is a fascinating debrief being presented in the format of how the organization used its values to frame their response to the problem.

I had to be dorky and upload my latest BCBA certificate. At my last recertification my certificate got lost in the mail and it honestly felt weird to not have this updated document in my possession. One of the most exciting things I experienced when looking at this was seeing that my next recertification will reflect a decade of being a BCBA (and almost 2 decades in the field). It has been amazing to see this field expand and change so rapidly over the course of my education and certification. I used to go to conferences and know the names of 75% of the people in attendance. Now I’m lucky if I know 5% of the attendees. This rapid growth provides significant challenges but it also maintains my motivation and desire to keep moving forward on this path.
