Today was a beautiful calm before the storm. ❄️❄️❄️

Gathered in community with four incredible women — in connection, growth, new learning, and support — was such a gift. It is an absolute joy to celebrate each of them as they step into the level of Reiki Master Practitioner.

Last evening, my daughter and I went to a yoga class together. During one stretch, our instructor Melissa, had us “hug ourselves.”

When we got home, I noticed my daughter pause inquisitively. I asked what she was thinking.

She said, “I’m counting my hugs today.”

She was at four.
Two from class.
One from her roommate when she left for the weekend — (love!)
One from me when I picked her up from college earlier that day.

Four.

Earlier that same day, I had shared with a client that before offering Reiki, I was not naturally “touchy-feely.” Likely a by-product of working in touch-free environments for most of my professional life. I distinctly remember thinking, I’m going to open a practice and invite strangers into my office… and touch them? Seriously?

(That story — the calling versus the plan — is for another time.)

But the hug conversation stayed with me.

We count calories.
We count steps.
We count hours of sleep.

What if we started counting hugs?

Melissa shared that to thrive, it’s suggested we receive 12 hugs a day —
4 for survival.
8 for maintenance.
12 for growth.

Hugs can reduce cortisol, increase oxytocin, lower blood pressure, and support emotional and physical growth. Physical touch helps calm the nervous system, build trust, and reduce stress.

Maybe today we don’t just track productivity.
Maybe we track connection.

Today our Reiki II training finally came together after being postponed by that big January snowstorm—and it was worth the wait! ❄️➡️✨

Feeling deeply grateful for this circle of high-vibration, beautiful humans who showed up with open hearts and presence. Today was a perfect reminder that Reiki transcends distance—souls can connect, learn, and support one another no matter where they are.

A special thank you to Greg for co-teaching. Sharing this work in community is always a gift.
