🚑 Berlin EMS Health & Safety Reminder: Preventing Falls at Home 🏠

Falls are one of the leading causes of injury—especially among older adults—but many are preventable with simple safety measures at home.

⚠️ Common Risk Factors:
• Cluttered walkways
• Poor lighting
• Loose rugs or cords
• Slippery floors or bathrooms
• Lack of handrails or grab bars

🛠️ Simple Ways to Reduce Risk:

✔️ Keep floors clear of clutter and secure loose rugs
✔️ Ensure proper lighting in all rooms and hallways
✔️ Install grab bars in bathrooms and handrails on stairs
✔️ Wear supportive, non-slip footwear
✔️ Use assistive devices if recommended (canes, walkers)

🚑 Medication Matters:
Some medications can cause dizziness or drowsiness. Always review medications with your healthcare provider if you feel unsteady.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Community Reminder:

Check in on elderly family members and neighbors. A quick safety check at home can prevent a serious injury.

Stay steady. Stay safe.

Today, we had the honor of delivering the donations collected in memory of EMT Frank Lord to the Animal Welfare Association.

Our members were given a tour of the facility and had the opportunity to spend some time with the animals, an experience that truly touched all of us. It is clear that this is a wonderful organization doing incredible work for animals in need.

We know Frank would be so happy to see the outpouring of support and generosity from our community. Thank you to everyone who contributed and helped us honor his memory in such a meaningful way. Thank you to the members who went out of their way to organize this event 🐾. Frank will always have a special place in all of our hearts.

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our friend, Past Captain and dedicated member, Steven Rossiter, who tragically lost his life in a motor vehicle accident.

Steven was more than a title he was a leader, a mentor, and a steady presence within Berlin EMS. As a Past Captain, he helped guide our department with strength, commitment, and heart. His dedication to serving our community will always remain part of our foundation.

Many of our members had the privilege of serving alongside Steven, including Past Captain Alan Sammis, who shared heartfelt memories and photos that reflect the brotherhood they carried both on and off duty. Their friendship is a true testament to the lifelong bonds formed in the fire and EMS service.

Today, we mourn not only a respected leader but a friend. We extend our deepest condolences to Steven’s family, loved ones, and all who had the honor of knowing him.

Once a member of Berlin EMS, always family.

Rest easy, Captain. We have the watch from here. 🚑💙
