Most cancer cases have a higher survival rate when they’re detected early. However, there are more than 200 types of cancer, and only five have early screenings. As a result, more than 50 percent of cancers are diagnosed in an advanced stage. A new type of test may change this dynamic. Called liquid biopsies, these multi-cancer early detection tests may help fill the gaps left by the five standard cancer screenings. They may also be combined with those standard screenings to provide a more comprehensive approach to early detection. If you’re curious about this test, let’s talk at your next appointment.

Some of my patients take turmeric supplements to ease pain, improve memory, slow aging and contribute to weight loss. Turmeric supplements are more effective when combined with bromelain or black pepper. However, the combination of turmeric with black pepper has been found to cause liver damage. Talk to me about the supplements you’re taking. In the meantime, here’s more on turmeric and black pepper supplements.

If I am concerned about your heart health, I may check your levels of myeloperoxidase (MPO) – an enzyme that helps identify your heart attack risk. But it turns out that this test is more valuable than we once thought. A recent study found that elevated MPO levels also suggest a risk for stroke and all-cause mortality. Here’s more on MPO. Let me know if you have any questions.
