The summer has officially arrived. We at MC Medical wanted to remind you to not forget to protect your skin from the sun by wearing sunscreen.
Know the 5 W’s (&H’s) of sunscreen
1. WHO: Everyone under the sun.
2. WHAT: Broad spectrum SPF 15 or higher; SPF 30 or higher for a day outdoors.
3. WHEN: Every day; 30 minutes prior to going outdoors. Reapply every two hours.
4. WHERE: All exposed skin.
5. HOW: One ounce (shot glass full) to entire body for each application.
6. WHY: Reduce your risk of skin damage and skin cancer!

Early detection is key! Skin cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the United States. We encourage people to check their skin for warning signs, using the ABCDE's.

Protect your skin! May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month!
An estimate of 9,500 people in the United States are diagnosed with skin cancer every day. You can prevent skin cancer with sun protection.
Seek shade between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. when the sun rays are the strongest.
Wear sun-protective clothing, such as a lightweight long sleeved shirt, pants, a wide brimmed hat, and sunglasses with UV protection.
Apply sunscreen! Apply a SPF of 30 or higher to your skin where your clothes don’t cover. REMEMBER to REAPPLY every two hours or after swimming or sweating.
