This spring marks the sixteenth anniversary of the nurse-midwifery service at PCC! Certified Nurse Midwives (CNMs) first began working at PCC Community Wellness Center in the spring of 2005. Initially, there were just two PCC CNMs providing prenatal care at just one PCC health center and attending labors at West Suburban Medical Center.

In 2014, we were proud to open Birth Center at PCC and be able to offer to continuous labor support and birth in an out of hospital setting to those with normal, low risk pregnancies.

Over the years, our midwife group has grown by leaps and bounds! We now have 11 nurse-midwives who provide prenatal care, postpartum, and well-body care at six of our health centers, attend labors and births at the Birth Center at PCC and at West Suburban Medical Center, and on average catch 30-35 babies every month.

We are honored to have cared for so many pregnant people and babies in these last sixteen years, and we can't wait to see what the next sixteen years will bring!

Happy Sweet Sixteen to the midwife group at PCC, and happy International Day of the Midwife to all our midwife colleagues around the world!
