It is with heartfelt sympathy that Chambers Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Mayor Quitman J. Mitchell, Jr., former Mayor of the City of Bessemer, who transitioned from this life on Monday, October 20, 2025. Born on May 2, 1940, Mr. Mitchell lived a life marked by leadership, faith, and dedicated service to his community. His lasting contributions to the City of Bessemer and the lives of those he touched will continue to be remembered and celebrated.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 27, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Chambers Funeral Home, located at 2527 9th Avenue North, Bessemer, Alabama 35020.

A second visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church, 4817 Jefferson Avenue SW, Birmingham, Alabama 35221, followed by the Celebration of Life Service beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the same location.

Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens, 3115 18th Avenue, Bessemer, Alabama 35020.

The family of Mr. Mitchell, Jr. and the staff of Chambers Funeral Home extend our sincere gratitude for the many expressions of love, prayers, and support during this time of bereavement.
