Grief Looks Different Through a Child’s Eyes
Today is Children’s Grief Awareness Day– a reminder that kids feel loss just as deeply as adults, but often show it in different ways. They may ask questions, act out, seem distant, or swing between laughter and tears. It’s all part of how they process what they can’t yet fully understand.
During the holidays especially, grief in children can resurface in unexpected ways. Gentle routines, safe conversations, and small ways to honor their loved one, like lighting a candle or hanging a special ornament, can help them feel seen and supported.
Grieving children don’t need perfect answers. They just need patience, presence, and permission to feel whatever they’re feeling.
