When someone with metastatic breast cancer is considering a change to a care plan, it is important that patients and healthcare providers have an honest conversation about goals of care. When breast cancer has metastasized, treatment options become more limited, making coordination between healthcare and deathcare providers essential.

Dates: January 19th – Mar. 2nd (Monday evenings)
Time: 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.
Place: The Bethany Children’s Health Center
Chickasaw Room
(Formerly the Children’s Rehabilitation Hospital)

Hospice care is the model of high-quality, compassionate care that helps patients and families live as fully as possible. We think Patch Adams said it best, "Our job is improving the quality of life, not just delaying death." Has a hospice worker helped a loved one? Let us know how they helped improve quality of life.

"You will lose someone you can't live without, and your heart will be badly broken, and the bad news is that you never completely get over the loss of your beloved. But this is also the good news. They live forever in your broken heart that doesn't seal back up. And you come through. It's like having a broken leg that never heals perfectly, that still hurts when the weather gets cold, but you learn to dance with the limp." - Anne Lamott

The main indication that it may be time for hospice care is when symptoms become difficult to manage, including pain, nausea, or shortness of breath. If your loved one has been admitted to the hospital for symptom management, it may be time to look at your options. This is why end-of-life preplanning and deathcare support is so essential, and why we keep our inbox open for all preplanning questions.

Deep grief comes only from a great love. It is ok to experience this grief while also appreciating the existence of the love. Give those grieving time, patience and acceptance. Love did not form overnight, and grief will not fade that quickly either.
