Every day, we hear stories of children or adults that have wandered off and are now missing. These stories are heartbreaking and law enforcement uses every resource possible to bring the missing home safe. There are several resources in Connecticut, when utilized before an emergency, which can assist law enforcement. One of these resources is Walk With Derek, which provides an Autism Safety Alert Form (paired with a recent photo) that law enforcement can use to help with identifying information and emergency contacts. Another resource is the Bring Me Back Home registry that helps law enforcement reunite families with individuals living with cognitive challenges, such as Dementia or Autism.
Families wishing to complete an Autism Safety Alert Form can do so by visiting Police HQ and obtaining a form from Dispatch. Forms and digital photos can also be forwarded to: rsoares@bethelpd.com.
