Earlier this week felt like a full circle moment. Our President and CEO, Mary K McCusker, gathered with board chairs emeritus Gary Altman (Altman & Associates) and Joe Clarke (EagleBank), the very place where, almost eight years ago, they first met for breakfast and began imagining a stronger future for Hope Connections and the families we serve.

That early conversation, which also included former Development Director Amy Weinberg, sparked the bold idea of one day purchasing a permanent home to ensure lasting stability for our participants. While Amy was not able to join us this week, her vision and leadership were very much part of the moment.

Grateful for the steady commitment that continues to move our mission forward.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our recent program, Gynecological Cancers: Prevention, Treatment & Survivorship.

We were grateful to share this important conversation with participants from across the community and beyond, and to learn from P. Reed McDonagh, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. His presentation offered clear, compassionate, and evidence-based insights on a topic that impacts so many.

Participants learned about the different types of gynecologic cancers, the importance of prevention and early detection (including the role of HPV vaccination), health disparities that affect outcomes and access to care, lifestyle and risk-reduction strategies, advances in radiation treatment such as proton therapy, and so much more.

We remain committed to offering free educational programs that provide reliable information and meaningful support to individuals impacted by cancer, caregivers, and members of the broader community.

January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, a time to pause and check in on our health.

Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable cancers. HPV vaccination and regular screenings play an important role in prevention. Because early stages do not always come with symptoms, routine checkups matter.

Caring for your health goes beyond prevention. Having emotional support, space, and connection can make a meaningful difference, especially if cancer ever becomes part of your story. Hope Connections offers free programs for anyone impacted by cancer.

Awareness starts with information, care, and support.
