Not every diagnosis starts in the exam room. Behind the scenes at Walter Reed, pathologists’ assistants play a critical role in patient care, analyzing tissue samples, identifying areas of concern, and helping guide accurate diagnoses across the hospital. Their work supports every surgical case and strengthens the care teams rely on every day.

Navigating our North Garage (Bldg. 63) just got a lot safer.

Over the weekend, upgrades were made to improve visibility and traffic flow to areas many have shared were difficult. You’ll now see:
- Bright orange delineators replacing older, hard-to-see ones
- Reflective markings added to concrete barriers
- A new 3-way stop at the first-level intersection

These changes are designed to make your arrival and departure smoother, clearer, and safer.

We appreciate those who spoke up. Your feedback helped drive these improvements, and it’s already making a difference.

Walter Reed’s Murtha Cancer Center (MCC) was recently recognized with accreditation from the Commission on Cancer, reflecting 75 years of continuous accreditation dating back to 1951.

Every three years, MCC voluntarily undergoes an intensive review of its cancer care programs to ensure the highest standards in diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and support for patients and their families. That ongoing commitment is what this moment represents as the U.S. Department of War’s only Cancer Care Center of Excellence, supported by strong research partnerships and collaboration across leading institutions.

Thank you to our dedicated teams (clinicians, researchers, and support staff) working every day to improve outcomes for patients. Congratulations on this well-earned recognition!

- At Walter Reed, a 45-person surgical team led by U.S. Army Maj. (Dr.) A.J. Pisano successfully removed a life-threatening tumor from a patient’s spinal cord, something doctors around the world deemed impossible. This extraordinary, multi-stage surgery was a testament to the precision and expertise found only at the President’s Hospital. The patient Sarah had an incredible journey to recovery, made possible by our amazing staff.
