Living with a rare condition often means spending years searching for answers. 🧬

For many patients, it also means being told their symptoms are unrelated, unusual, or hard to explain. 🩺

At Bethesda Physiocare, we work with individuals whose conditions don’t fit neatly into one diagnosis—such as Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, POTS/dysautonomia, chronic pelvic pain, and complex pain conditions. These are not “isolated problems.” They involve connective tissue, the nervous system, movement patterns, and how the body responds to stress and recovery. 💙

Rare conditions require more than standard protocols. 🧠
They require listening, whole-body understanding, and care that adapts to the individual—not the other way around.

🎗️ This Rare Disease Month, we honor the resilience of those navigating complex diagnoses and reaffirm our commitment to informed, compassionate, and personalized care.

✨ You deserve to be heard.
✨ You deserve care that connects the dots.

Jaw tension isn’t random, it’s layered! Just like a box of chocolates, each “sweet” surprise hides something different underneath.
🍫 Stress and nervous system overload
🍫 Poor sleep and airway strain
🍫 Forward head posture and screen time
🍫 Neck and upper back stiffness
🍫 Clenching habits you don’t even notice
Focusing only on the jaw is like biting the chocolate and ignoring the filling.

Lasting relief comes from understanding why the tension is there, not just where it shows up.
Awareness is the first unwrapping.

Treatment is learning how to change the pattern.
👉 Bethesda Physiocare treats TMJ beyond the jaw, because your body is always telling a bigger story.

Physical therapy for Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome isn’t about lifting heavier or building bigger muscles. In hypermobile bodies, traditional strength training can sometimes increase pain or instability when it’s not carefully tailored.

Effective EDS rehab focuses on how muscles work, not just how strong they are. The goal is control, not tension 🧠. When muscles respond efficiently, joints stay supported without keeping the nervous system in constant alert mode.

Smart physical therapy builds stability while protecting nervous system capacity. That’s what helps people with EDS move with more confidence, less pain, and fewer flare-ups 💙

Real progress can be choosing consistency over intensity. It can be listening instead of forcing. It can be showing up for your body in small, supportive ways, even when energy is low.

Steady doesn’t mean stuck.
Steady is what builds trust, resilience, and long-term change.

Wherever you are today, that effort counts.

01/23/2026

January often comes with big changes, new routines, and pressure to “reset.” For people with POTS, sudden shifts can quickly destabilize the autonomic nervous system.

Common January mistakes include:
• cutting back on salt or fluids in the name of “health”
• jumping into aggressive workouts too quickly
• skipping rest to stay productive
• ignoring temperature changes and cold exposure

These changes can lead to increased dizziness, fatigue, heart rate spikes, and longer recovery times 🧠. POTS symptoms tend to worsen when the nervous system is asked to adapt too fast, without enough support.

Stability comes from consistency, not resets. Small, steady habits help protect autonomic balance and make symptoms more manageable over time.

👉 If January changes are flaring your POTS symptoms, we can help. Schedule a nervous-system–informed PT evaluation at Bethesda Physiocare and start building a plan that supports stability, not setbacks.

Our Physical Therapy Process

At Bethesda Physiocare®, we recognize that physical therapy doesn’t just mean treating pain. Quality physical therapy requires education, pain management, training, posture stabilization, strengthening, stability and flexibility to come to the best results. We strive to understand each patient’s daily activities so we can form a plan inside and outside of our physical therapy clinic. During the initial phase of physical therapy, the emphasis is often on pain management and self-care skills. As soon as possible, patients progress towards more functional training, which may include exergaming, specific strengthening exercises, stabilization, posture training, and aerobic activities. Our ultimate goals are to increase the activity tolerance in individuals suffering acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions and to return patients back to a functional lifestyle, work, and recreational activities.

Our physical therapists examine each patient thoroughly and develop individualized treatment plans. While we have several clinical specialties—including orofacial physical therapy, performing arts physical therapy, pelvic pain/dysfunction and issues of continence, and chronic pain physical therapy—our physical therapists are highly skilled in all areas of musculoskeletal dysfunction.
