Farrell and his staff created the Maryland Orthopedic Institute to focus on restoring each patient to a full and active life while providing superior orthopedic care in a patient centered, caring environment. Farrell is a board certified orthopedic surgeon who has been performing orthopedic surgery since 2004. Dr. Farrell provides general orthopedic care, and has expertise and sub-specialty training in joint replacements of the hip and knee as well as sports injuries of the knee. He has been recognized as an outstanding provider of specialty care by local peer surgeons and physicians. Following residency, he was selected to a fellowship in Adult Reconstruction and Sports Medicine with the Insall Scott Kelly Institute in New York City. He then completed a second fellowship in Hip and Knee Reconstruction at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. Those fellowships included training in complex knee and hip problems. Since entering private practice, he has had extensive experience in general orthopedics, joint replacement surgery, and sports medicine. His patients span the full spectrum of those seeking orthopedic assistance -- from young people and weekend warriors, to competitive and professional athletes, to the older non-athlete. Dr. Farrell has been the recipient of many medical awards along with being recognized as a “Top Orthopedist” by Washingtonian Magazine and Super Doctors Magazine multiple times. He trained under the direction of multiple world-renowned orthopedic surgeons at the leading orthopedic hospitals in the world, including the Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota, as well as the Hospital for Special Surgery and Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City.
