"One can choose to go back toward safety or forward toward growth. Growth must be chosen again and again; Fear must be overcome again and again". Abraham Maslow
Why is change so hard, even small changes in our lives? Almost all who come to our offices are attempting to make change in their lives. What is it that keeps me from doing the things that I know I must choose to do to change?
As the quote suggests growth requires discomfort, doing something new and unknown and not knowing the result. We are hard wired to stay with the familiar through many years of evolution. Familiarity is safe to a point, except where it does cause us pain emotionally.
Overcoming the discomfort, fear of the unknown, does become the challenge versus the status quo. Can I learn to be comfortable with the discomfort of change until it does become the familiar.
We have all heard if nothing changes nothing changes.
Just try a small change today and see how it feels.
