“You are more than your mistakes”

When we mess up, we cringe a lot. Not only do others comment on it, we internalize all those feelings of fear, shame, and doubt that comes with making a mistake too.

But we have to remember that we are MORE than our mistakes. We are still human, still a person. We are a friend, a child, a community member. Our worth is not made up of our actions. Do not put yourself down for your mistakes.

When therapists have a break, such as a client canceling, what do they even do?

Sure, there are many answers, especially the ones we WANT to say we do. We could fill out our never ending notes, write out referrals, connect with other community organizations, or go through our overflowing email inbox.

What do we really do when we have a break? We do what we NEED to do. Whether that's actual admin work like above, but maybe it’s getting a coffee, checking your phone, answering a text, giving a loved one a call, or for Danny, reading a book. Therapists have to practice what they preach, and do their own self-care too.

“This will never go away”

A common introduction into mental health is the sentiment that healing is not linear. And it is so true to remember. We can get caught up in our emotions, our struggles, conflicts, and fear for the worse. Some days, it feels like these obstacles will never go away.

But that isn’t the truth. Every day is different, and every day is progress in that way. Change may be small, but it is change nonetheless. Look for the small wins. Appreciate and notice the little things. Show gratitude towards yourself as you change for the better.

What is art therapy and what can it look like? There are so many different forms of therapy, and so many different forms of art.

Danny shares his take on Soul Collaging as an intervention in therapy sessions and in workshops. With creating something and answering reflective guided questions, participants can learn so much about themselves with such a small project.
