People always want to know: What will the scars look like after surgery?

Here’s the reality: When surgery is done well, there’s very little tension on the skin at closure. And that changes everything.

When I close a facelift incision, I don’t pull or stretch the skin. I simply drape it over the ear, remove the excess, and close it gently - with no tension across the incision line.

Why does that matter?

Because tension creates problems. It can lead to:
* A tight, windswept appearance
* Thick, raised, or widened scars

But no tension = no visible scar.

Instead, what you’re left with is a fine, almost invisible incision, and over time, it becomes even harder to see.

It’s not just about lifting, it’s about how we lift and how we close.

Nerve injury is the biggest facelift risk no one talks about.

Here’s the truth: 100% of facelifts cause some degree of nerve disruption, specifically to the nerves that sense the skin. That’s why temporary numbness is expected, it’s a normal part of the healing process and usually wears off within 3 to 6 months.

But here’s the good news: when done correctly, the risk of serious nerve injury is extremely low.

In a deep plane facelift, we’re actually looking directly at the nerves during surgery, which makes it easier to avoid damaging them. That’s one of the many reasons I favor this approach - it’s safer, more precise, and allows for natural movement post-op.

I also use Botox during healing to help support nerve recovery and improve outcomes.

Yes, nerve injury sounds scary but when your surgeon does a high volume of facelifts and understands the anatomy inside and out, the real risk drops significantly.

Because it was painful, required larger incisions, and often involved heat-based tools that added trauma.

For me, it’s the neck.

There are many elements that go into a great facelift result, but a stunning neck and jawline? That’s the hallmark of a truly well-executed surgery.

Here’s why:

The neck is directly connected to the lower face. If each side of the face drops just 5%, that adds up to 10% of sagging in the neck. That’s where it all collects - loose skin, facial descent, heaviness.

To truly fix the neck, you have to lift the face first, put everything back where it belongs, including the subtle descent from the brow and temple.

So when the neck looks amazing after surgery, it tells me the whole face has been anatomically reset. Nothing skipped. Nothing left behind.

And my approach to the neck is different from most.

I use something called the Crevasse Technique, a specialized method I helped publish in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal. It’s designed to sculpt the deepest planes of the neck with precision and control. I believe it’s one of the most important contributions to facial surgery in the last 20–30 years because it allows us to achieve exceptional jawline definition, even in difficult cases.

But the bottom line?

You can’t have a great facelift without a great neck and jawline. And when you do - it changes everything.
