what patients don't know. Many West Hollywood patients are surprised to learn that panniculectomy and abdominoplasty handle the belly button completely differently. During a panniculectomy, when we remove excess abdominal skin, the belly button often gets removed entirely and tied off - meaning patients wake up without one. It's a concept that catches people off guard. With abdominoplasty, we relocate and reposition the belly button to maintain natural appearance. The difference comes down to medical necessity versus cosmetic enhancement, which affects insurance coverage.

Why $10K surgery abroad fails. Dr. Som sees patients from Hollywood who thought they could save money with overseas procedures, only to return with infections and complications requiring costly revisions. The reality? When surgical wounds get infected or procedures go wrong abroad, you're left dealing with serious health consequences far from your original surgeon. Your body and health deserve proper care from qualified professionals who'll be there for your entire journey.

Flap necrosis risk every plastic surgeon worries about. As a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon, I'll be honest about what keeps me up at night. The more procedures you perform, the higher the statistical chance something could go wrong. While most wound healing issues are minor and manageable, flap necrosis is the complication that truly concerns us. The flap is the skin overlying the surgical area, and when it doesn't heal properly, it creates serious complications. It's not about being pessimistic - it's about being realistic with patients about surgical risks and ensuring they understand what we monitor for during recovery.

Overfilled lips mystery solved. Dr. Som explains why so many people end up with that unnatural "duck" look from facial fillers. Santa Monica patients often ask about this exact concern when they visit his Beverly Hills practice. The issue isn't the filler itself - it's the technique and placement. When injectors overfill cheeks or lips, or place filler incorrectly, it creates those distorted features everyone fears. The key is finding someone who understands facial anatomy and knows when to stop.

Kybella creates dramatic swelling. But here's what most people don't know about this double chin treatment - the swelling that makes you look like a "bullfrog" for the first week is actually doing something incredible. Hollywood Hills patients who come to my Beverly Hills practice are often surprised to learn that this intense inflammatory response is exactly what makes Kybella so effective. Unlike other treatments that only target fat, Kybella does something unique - it destroys fat cells AND tightens skin simultaneously, giving you results similar to a neck lift without surgery. The procedure is done every four weeks because your body needs time to process this transformation.

Beauty standards challenge human diversity. Dr. Som explains how the pursuit of an "Instagram face" creates dangerous homogenization that goes against our natural human differences. When everyone aims for the same look, we lose what makes us uniquely beautiful. Each person's individual features tell their own story - minor differences that should be celebrated, not erased. True beauty lies in embracing our diversity, not conforming to a single standard that defeats the very purpose of humanity.

Botched surgery nearly killed patient. A Brentwood woman's cosmetic procedure abroad turned into a nightmare when surgeons left her with open wounds and green discharge. Daily "treatments" involved cutting tissue with scissors while she was awake. She finally flew back to the US and went straight to the hospital. It took multiple surgeries, aggressive antibiotic treatment, and intensive care to save her from sepsis.

When non-surgeons do liposuction, the results can be devastating. A plastic surgeon shares what happens when unqualified practitioners use laser liposuction devices they don't understand. West Hollywood patients often come to my Beverly Hills practice after complications from procedures done by non-specialists. These practitioners don't know how to handle serious complications like burned skin, leaving patients to seek emergency help from board-certified surgeons.

Fat injection dangers every patient should know. Dr. Som explains why injecting fat into muscle tissue can be life-threatening. When fat particles enter blood vessels, they can travel to your heart, lungs, or brain, causing catastrophic complications called fat embolisms. Hollywood Hills patients considering fat transfer procedures need to understand these serious risks before making decisions about their cosmetic treatments.

Medical tourism gone wrong. A patient went to Colombia for plastic surgery with her whole family - mom, aunt, cousins all getting procedures. She had a breast lift, implants, and tummy tuck. Everything seemed fine until complications hit hard. Infections set in, and she found herself awake while surgeons cut infected tissue from her abdomen with scissors, green discharge everywhere. When it became a daily occurrence, she packed up, flew back to the US, and went straight to the hospital. This is why choosing the right surgeon and facility matters more than saving money abroad.

BBL surgery dangers you should know. Dr. Som shares why Brazilian butt lifts have become one of the deadliest cosmetic procedures when performed incorrectly. Many Brentwood patients are shocked to learn that not all practitioners performing BBLs are board-certified plastic surgeons, and some use dangerous techniques like injecting raw silicone in non-medical settings. Understanding these risks is crucial for anyone considering body contouring procedures.
